I would try a diode if possible the CR1 might be back feeding if this is happening when you hit the breaks . If that's the case I would put it on the yellow wire closest to the tail lights . If not the turn signal wires . Just an idea

 

Yes, the new harness will connect at the trailer connector, so it shouldn't do any kind of cross-talk to the tails. Available very soon! Thank you for your patience.

Hey everyone! Here's some information regarding this.

Our team has been working hard to introduce a number of vehicle-specific harnesses for our HitchMount LED Pod. We have even been able to release a few thus far! This is where you're seeing the vehicle-specific listing for the 05-11 Tacoma.

Unfortunately, the harness on the 05-11 Tacoma is different than that of the 12-15, as the 05-11 has a 4-pin trailer harness and the 12-15 has a uniquely shaped 7-pin trailer harness that is not compatible with our universal in-line 7-pin trailer harness.

We have been able to successfully develop an option for the 05-11, and expect that to be available to ship in 6-8 weeks. This listing is up as a preorder option for this reason.

Though we don't have any ETA for the 12-15 Tacoma option at this time, rest assured it is something we are working on here at our HQ.

I apologize for not having better news to report to you both, but I will be sure to share as soon as I have some more information available!

So I’m trying to keep this as simple as possible.

Safe to say this is the correct wiring schematic for the DD harness, just different colors…correct?



I was going to buy one of these, and jut solder into the DD harness. Following that schematic Almost plug and play but I enjoy soldering lol!

 

I'm super disappointed in this product. I am howeverabsolutely blown away by DD's stellar customer support and service. I purchased mine from Amazon as DD was out of stock when I went to order. About 2 weeks after purchase the brake light feature stopped working. I contacted DD after a couple emails and a detailed list of my troubleshooting. They had a harness and return label in route. Replaced the harness and all was good. So I thought, a few weeks later I was waiting to pick a friend up who was dropping off his truck for maintenance and figured I'd put the light back in. My truck was in park, but I left it running and swapped my hitch for the light, and the brake light stopped working again. So another few emails and they sent me another harness and return label. So today I needed to use my trailer so I pulled out of the garage, shut the truck off and put the lights in OFF position, removed the light and did my thing. After I finished, sane process, lights IN OFF, truck off as well plugged the light in and placed the lock. As I backed into my garage I turned on my camera to test thr light and low and behold the brake light has quit again. I'm beyond frustrated at this point. I love the concept but I just can't keep it working. I can't be the only one having this issue.

 

Bought a USCAR PLUG with leads, cut my OEM hitch plug, and soldered everything back up.

I don’t have anyhere to mount the OEM hitch plug anyway, so no loss for me. I’ll be purchasing the 3rd Gen tow plug, bolts right up to my steel bumper. Might as well make it OEM looking, plug and play for the DD hitchpod. Really didn’t want to cut up the DD harness harness.



Not sure if I like all the red lights, if I don’t, the SSC2’s red running light will be disconnected. I MIGHT leave it, thinking the 3rd brake isn’t as visible as it used to be with the bed rack.

do we know how the harness keeps failing? Is there a smart functionality in this harness?
seems odd the harness would keep going bad. Can the ring out a failed harness?
