Installed my first head unit on my own in my truck soldered the wired covered in electric tape all was fine for 2 days then last night when i shoved the cigarette lighter in the port the stereo died along with the cigarette lighter port. I would imagine it be a fuse but i am not seeing where this fuse is and also have check most all fuses and am not seeing any blown fuses can someone tell me where the fuse is and also any other ideas?

If it's a 2nd gen, then the fuse for these are behind the cubby door on your dash to your lower left. That little door can be pulled out, and the fuses are behind it.

did you pull the radio again and test for voltage at the connection? either with a test light or voltmeter.

Check fuses before you start pulling stereos. I think the lighter and the radio are on separate fuses, so separate issues here.

I apologize I didnt specify its a 1st gen tacoma prerunner 2001 to be exact. I havnt pulled it since this happened last night because the cig lighter went out I didnt think it would have been an issue with the radio

Ahh, then it might be the same fuse but I'll let a 1st gen owner answer for that. I know the two used to be tied together on the same fuse in my old Nissan. I don't know where the fuse panel is on 1st gens.

This did the trick 1st off there was a 20a fuse where the 15 should have been and it was indeed blown popped in new one and power is back. Hoping thats all it was and that it was a coincidence i just installed the stereo and nothing else. Thank you everyone for your help. Have been following the forums here for a while now and finally decided to join since i got a taco of my own. Will be attempting quite a few mods thanks to everyones right ups! Looks forward to more chat in the forums! :)

For some reason this happens to me too. I have a phone charger plugged into my cig lighter and if I push it all the way in with the truck on it blows that fuse every time.

Try a different phone charger then. I had a small air pump that shorted out and blew my cig fuse, but it was just the device and not the circuit. Might be something wrong with your phone charger's circuitry or something weird. Or, just try your cigarette lighter and see if the fuse blows.

Yeah the phone charger does it to my fiance's nissan too. It's not an issue though because I just keep the phone charger plugged in all the time, and if i ever need to move it I do so when the truck is off.

    thread resurrection...
We got a 2002 tacoma the other day... when I got it home my wife noticed
that the radio and the clock didn't work anymore. This thread clued me into
looking at the acc fuse, it was blown. I had plugged my phone into the
cigarette lighter instead of one of the other plugs since my short USB cable
reached there easily. I guess you're not supposed to do that :) ...

Guys Google how to make a power relay!, super easy, and you could put power to the lighter up to 30 ampere. Good way to stop this prob requires some 12+awg wire and 30 amp relay, problems forever gone. o_O
