Im going to buy a new deck cause my other one is fried, but I do not know what kind of sound system is in my truck (its not stock, my buddy who is the original owner had a system installed a few years ago.) Does it really matter what kind of deck I get or will the deck have no effect on the system?

Of course the deck matters. Is that all you wanted to know? You will get what you pay for.

SwingCase, driver side. PVC Bike rack. Aftermarket stereo.
Any aftermarket deck should work in the install. Quality and features will be something you want to consider, but unless he put in some strange one-off item, you should be OK with about any deck you choose.
