In 1988,I saw what was my first real Mountain Bike.....My younger brother saved all of the money he earned at a summer camp that he (and I) worked at as a counsellor. It was "Paramount" and he paid $600 for it.Getting heavily into motorcycles at the time,I thought he was absolutely foolish to spend that kind of dough on a bicycle.Secretly,I was envious and went to the shop that he bought it at and looked at the bikes. There I saw a '89 Stumpjumper and IIRC the price was $900.I ended up buying a much cheaper Velo Sport that summer and haven't really been without a MTB since.I've had some nice bikes, but in my heart always wanted a Stumpy but just never seemed to be able to pull the trigger.

Sadly, and very unexpectedly,my bro died a year ago last month.......Forever,as I enjoy the sport of Mountain biking I'll think of Joe and thank him for introducing me to something that I love so much

Skip ahead 20 years exactly, and a couple of days ago, with my wifes (God love 'er)blessing,I got myself the Stumpjumper I always wanted. It's an '09 Comp, and I'm really happy with it.....I'm also really happy with the connection I feel with Joe when I swing a leg over it.

Sorry to get sappy with you all,I was just going to post a pic of the new ride but said "screw it"....We're all family right.:)

    Stuff...
That is one nice ride :), but I would have got an enduro, except the new ones have yet to grow on me, don't like them as much as the previous design (which I have and love). I just needed a little more travel than the stumpjumper, but that looks sweet! Have fun with it

I like mountain biking as well but only if it has a motor. I could do downhill if there was a lift to carry me back to the top - I'm just not a fan of peddling. Anyway, great story behind your passion. I'm sorry about the loss of your brother but I'm sure he'd enjoy watching you rip that thing down the mountain!

    Congrats on the bike...looks awesome!

Great Bike you'll love it. Great story to boot. I have the red Stumpy Elite, but in the 2007 version. Love that bike.

My first real mountain bike was a Rockhopper. I still have it tucked away in the garage.
