Hi guys, I just read a thread on reman OEM axles and noticed there was a “long travel” 2+ inch for over $600. I recently purchased the adjustable 6112+5100 rear kit from bilstein set at 2.2” to replace my 3.5 inch RC. Tire size currently is 265/75/16 which I’d like to change eventually to 285/70/17. My question is do I need to purchase a long OEM axle or just a regular reman OEM axle. I haven’t installed the new suspension yet and the CVs sound like they are falling out and I just bought them. Also, what offset rim is recommended for the 285/70/17 to prevent rubbing?

Regular OEM axle. DO NOT get the +2 axle, that is specifically for long travel suspension which you do not have (trust me, you'd know if you do, it's an entirely different rabbit hole).

You are going to run with a 285/70/17 unless you do a cab mount chop/relocation and some other massaging and trimming in the wheel well area. There is no such thing as a magic wheel offset to change this. Probably the most popular question in the entire history of the forum so if you use the search function it's all been done before.

Yes, I’ve been reading the 17” rim vs 16” threads which is why I want to swap. The 17” rim has more M/T options for C rated tires. I will continue to read the rim threads although I don’t understand it due to my lack of experience with rims. I assumed that with my 2.2 inch 6112/5100 package it would be fine since it’s only 1” difference according to tire calculator. Thank you for axle information. My aftermarket ones keep popping but, I’m sure it’s because of the 3.5” current lift.
