I just purchased a 2019 Barcelona Red Tacoma TRD Off Road! The Toyota dealership states that they will provide lifetime scheduled oil changes if I perform all of the manufacture scheduled maintenance with them. According to the manual, the first scheduled oil change is at 10K miles. I have always thought the first oil change on a new car should be much sooner.

Does anyone have an opinion on when the first oil change for a new Taco should occur and what the oil change interval should be for this truck? I would like to keep this wonderful truck running well for many years. Thank you very much for your help!

First oil change is at 10k ... I still haven’t had mine yet. It’s pretty much the same interval as my wife’s beemer ... gotta love that Synthetic oil!

I’m with you, 10,000 miles on the first oil change worried me. I changed mine at 5,000 miles just for peace of mind. Toyota will change it when I hit 10,000 miles.

Toyota says 10k....don’t second guess the manufacturer because should the need to make claim arise you want to be in a good position in your performance contract with Toyota i.e the warranty

I get my oil analyzed periodically. The lab recommended a 12,500 mile oil change interval for my 2010 tacoma.

If you’re smarter than the engineers who deemed the 10,000 mile oil change then change it. The manual is there for a reason:evil:

The OP is inquiring about the first oil change, not the interval thereafter. A new engine is ‘tight’ for want of a better word. The moving parts have not been subjected to a lot of heat expansion and been properly ‘bedded in’ with each other. Tiny pieces of metal wear off the moving parts over the life of an engine but it is more pronounced at the beginning. These tiny pieces mix with the oil.

I get it that Toyota says 10,000 miles is fine for the first oil change, and a $22 extra oil change at say 5,000 miles is good peace of mind. ....at least to me. :)

Yeah, until my engine lasts longer than yours, then you’ll learn. You have time.

Perfect example of ignorance. These engines will last 200k+ with minimal maintenance. I wont even own the truck that long.

    Facts don't care about feelings

Agreed, I also often prefer doing my oil changes and routine maintenance, I feel like the dealership will not put the same care into to the work like I will as the owner of the truck. Another issue with their "family plan" benefit is that not only are the lifetime oil changes tied to the dealership performing all the scheduled maintenance, but, the dealership's lifetime drive train warranty is also. It's a real catch 22. Apparently all scheduled maintenance is included for the first two years.
