What's up guys, just bought a 2019 Tacoma TRD Off-road. Im more of a car guy and have my C7 Z06 modded and suspension work is done. Finally caved in to getting a taco, they just look sick asf and I needed a truck. Truck mods are quite different than car mods. Instead of engine and performance, it's all about the suspension and exterior modifications. If any of yall have suggestions of mods to do from the get-go please let me know. I've been looking through the forums and see many amazing builds. Im having a hard time figuring out the best route to go for a lift and bigger tires. I see one person saying one thing and another person saying another thing. I know a stock Tacoma can fit 265/70/17, which is the route I was going to go with but after ordering new rims (17x9 -12mm) I think it's worth buying a lift since im changing tires anyways. Might as well do everything now than spend money on doing it couple months down the road. Here are my questions.....

    1. Im looking for a mild lift (2inch front/1 inch rear or 3-inch front 2 inch rear, I want to fit 285/70/17 tires. Is the lift I linked below all I need or do I need to order other parts to go along with it to work.

    link to lift https://www.customwheeloffset.com/s...?year=2019&make=Toyota&model=Tacoma&drive=4WD

    2. Are 285 tires going to reduce power, or require me to regear?

    3. Go with 3-inch front, 2 inch rear or 2-inch front, 1-inch rear?

    4. Any other suggestions for mods to do?

285s are run by many with no regear, but with lost power. You will want a regear on 285s if you want to maintain performance resembling stock.

What do you recommend in terms of a nice stance without doing 285s. Should I just do 255/85/17 or 265/75/17? Keeping stock height

I can attest that 265/70/17 (1” larger than stock) is a very capable tire size. It is all you will need to do most things a Tacoma is good at. However, the 285/70/17 or 285/75/16 (both roughly 33”) look beefier so most guys go with those if modding for looks.

if you want your truck to look like the Tacos on Instagram, you need to consider the larger tires.

On another topic. I can guarantee you that you need to upgrade your shocks if you can afford it. I’m a fan of a stockish Tacoma, but the stock TRD OR billies are truly garbage for almost everything. I upgraded to the cheap and cheerful Billstein 5100s and that solved all handling issues I had on road and off.

the stock shocks are both harsh on small hits and wallowy and vague at the same time. Don’t know how they achieved that, but get them off the truck.

Judging from your car you have cash and like nice stuff, you could go with ADS or King suspension or Fox, https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/ads-vs-king-group-buy.634937/ Maybe put on a Icon RXT leaf pack https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/icon-rxt-leaf-pack.505580/ Then throw on some SCS wheels or Volk or something else. JBA UCAs to finish it off.
Good luck with your build, had fun spending your cash!

No offense but you have the dough to own a new Tacoma, heavily modded C7, don't cheap out with a hockey puck lift. At a minimum at least go with 5100's with OME coils or 6112s. Welcome!

I bought my truck with 265/70/17’s on the stock 1” lift and it was great! good mpg and handled nice on road! Off road with a load, it sucked pretty bad going uphill on washboarded dirt roads.

Always intended to go with 285’s, for better off road performance and a bit of additional lift. so I needed a 2” lift to accommodate the taller tire and decided to go all in on the suspension with a OME full lift kit and hd leaf packs, no spacers or blocks. MPG dropped to 15 from 20, but my off road performance is sick!

So, I guess its about what you want from your truck, looks or performance. my first mod was a pop & lock auto tailgate lock. Best mod for the money I ever did.

    Good luck!

    265 70 17.

drives so much nicer on the road and it’s enough lift to tackle some trails.

i guess i’ve had the opposite experience. I find the stock tires do really well on rocks, and adequate but not amazing in mud. Seem to do well in sand fully inflated.

the stock offroad shocks are wallowy - but so nice and soft off-road. Cushiest truck i’ve ever taken off the pavement

Nice garage! I miss my C6Z every day. Who wouldn’t miss a 427?!? Until I remember that DD’ing on Pilot Sport2’s is not inexpensive.

    Welcome and enjoy the truck!

Keep it simple. A 3" spacer lift is pure crap. Wider tires rob you of power and gas mileage.

Taller tires (Pizza cutters) will give you true lift (1"), without robbing you of power.

Isn't it great having both a Tacoma and a C7? You can't get much further apart in driving experience.

Congrats and welcome. Enjoy the new truck. Regarding the Corvette, if looks could kill, your Vette would be locked up, very nice!
