Hey everyone, my name is Jason. I just ordered a new 2017 TRD Off Road 4x4 and I am beyond pumped. Should be picking it up this week or next. The online community is something I am a firm believer in for any vehicle owner, so I'm happy to be here. 7 year AFSOC veteran, recently separated from military service - I'm in Florida now, but relocating to Virginia in the mountains soon. I like fishing/fly-fishing and tying, paddle boarding, mountain biking, and camping. I love craft beer. I love Toyota. I had a 2009 4Runner before this and it was a dream machine, but time to move on.

My first experience with a Toyota truck was an old Hilux that I drove in Afghanistan while deployed chasing Taliban for a year. That truck never quit and it sold me on the name ever since. Stepping into this new Taco will be part of my military transition, and also an homage paid to that desert steed.

Anyways, I'll post a picture when I pick it up!
    Cheers!
    -Jason

Thanks! I have the premium entire audio, but kind of wishing I went with JBL and dual climate as well. My wife is always saying I'm "freezing her out" with the A/C. Have you seen a need for this with the new gens?

The JBL is nice, I can attest. The climates are really nice. Did you get the heated seats? I think those are a must.

A new bolt here, a new bolt there, a new bolt everywhere.
Welcome to the nut house lol. Congrats on the new truck, but just a little advice that you can take with a grain of salt. Test drive the hell out of your truck before you finalize the paper work just to make sure you don't get a Monday truck like some people here have. I'd hate for you to be let down with such high expectations you are having. Drive it a good 10mi. out and 10mi back, get on the freeway, drive on the feeder, ect...Just listen for anything out of the ordinary and don't take the salesman bs of that's normal. Check here if in doubt.
Good luck and I hope you are like the rest of us who got one hell of a truck.
Thank you for your service and your sacrifices. :oldglory:

I think it's under "premium and technology package." One of those catch all packages that gets you all that stuff. It's irritating these days that things are sold that way, unless of course you want everything. So actually what did us in was the need for a sun roof. Ended up getting a double cab with basically every option to get a sun roof! Is that crazy or what? Anyway, I'm not really complaining though I did when we were paying for it. :)

Ha yes I know the feeling. I am okay without the dual climate control and JBL's. Speakers are an easy upgrade later (if necessary) and I actually like the simplicity of dial controlled AC. No Frills is sometimes a good thing!

You'll have a little time to read over the 3rd gen threads, to be watchful for problems, like:

    Best wishes on your purchase!

Keep in mind that if you spent all your time at the hospital, you might think the human body was a hopeless wreck! The common problems seem to be transmission shift irregularities, hood adhesive weirdness, differential howling. There's some less probable stuff out there too. Mine, for instance, has a delay when shifting from park to drive, only first thing in the morning (but it is otherwise perfect). Couldn't get it remedied as it's hard to reproduce and subtle. I would definitely make sure the trans fluid was checked when you take delivery and try not to flip about the nightmare stories. There are a lot of us that have nothing else to do but enjoy our trucks.

Thanks for the tips! I will definitely have them do a check of trans fluid before taking delivery.

I used to drive a BUSTED VW passat back in the day and spent all kinds of time on the forum. A lot of help from the forum, but also there were a lot of anxieties produced from the board. But it's nice to know we all feel the same about it haha.

So I guess I'm a bit confused on the options. Does the tech package not get the jbl and why have I noticed that many people do not have it. Is the option more difficult to get.

From my understanding, the JBL is part of a premium technology package that includes heated seats, dual climate, and I think maybe an auto rear window? The Entune premium audio + apps is just the radio itself, with nav etc. JBL is the tech package option. If you build a tacoma on the toyota website it will show it as an add on.
