Redline it at least once before 5k? Buying new shiny things for the truck count as breaking in right?

Sorry for a repeat of the same info, Cudgel posted this the same time I was.

    From 2022 Tacoma owner's manual, page 171:

    ■ Breaking in your new Toyota to extend the life of the vehicle, observing the following precautions is recommended:
●For the first 200 miles (300 km): Avoid sudden stops.

●For the first 500 miles (800 km): Do not tow a trailer.

    ●For the first 1000 miles (1600 km):

    • Do not drive at extremely high speeds.
    • Avoid sudden acceleration.
    • Do not drive continuously in low gears.
    • Do not drive at a constant speed for extended periods.

    Agree with the above.
I do however plan to do a 1K oil change with full synthetic myself.
Always did this with my motorcycles and I always found a few bits of metal in the drained oil.
I can’t drink the 5K oil change koolaide manufacturers suggest these days. I am so old school that I am preschool.

Just drive it like you would any vehicle. Toyota care should do your 1st oil change at 5k miles, 10k after. This is how i started out with my 2020 and its been perfect. If anything major is going to fail, its going to likely happen within their factory warranty.

If your finding bits of metal in your motorcycles oil, its either a harley, or your beating on it too much.

Throw some firewood in the bed, grab an ice cream cone, and drive around town like you stole it.
When you are done, the bed will be scuffed and the carpet will be stained.
It's now broken in. You won't have to baby it any more.

Shiny things? Chrome delete package. Make sure you get plenty of tool marks on the trim. Use the softest thing you find on the planet, maybe chinchilla fur, and wipe some scratches into the dash.

Actually every race bike and street bike - Kawasaki, Suzuki, Honda, Triumph, BSA GOLD STAR, Ducati and my Harley’s that I have owned / own did have fine metal bits suspended in oil at 1,000 miles. I alway try and do a no load run in for an hour to harden the cams but stuff does wear in.
Yes, I ride them with a hooligan’s heart but I don’t abuse them. It is worth the piece of mind and the expense to me.:bikewheelie:

No money, all went to truck...
You are taking it a step further. Toyota recommends 10k oil change. People argue it should be 5k. You're going as far as 1K. I like eit.

If a Harley isn't leaking oil its out of oil.
