My new 2020 Tacoma SR5 burned 3 1/2 quarts of oil after only 4900 miles! The oil light did not come on until a day before I took it in. The authorized dealership put new oil in and sealed everything up and told me to come back every 1500 miles. They said the remaining oil was extremely dirty. The first 1500 mile check showed a quart low. Every check up since then has shown no oil usage at all, including yesterday’s 10,000 mile check up.
The mystery remains as to what caused this, and the mechanics’ opinions have varied:

The truck was low on oil when the factory shipped it.
The engine needs to be replaced
The rings need time to seat themselves (explaining why it no longer burns oil)

The dealership now says I don’t have to come back until another 10,000 miles but to “keep an eye on the oil level”

I would love some options on this and to know if anyone else has had a similar experience.
I’m somewhat worried about any potential engine damage that may have been caused by the initial incident.
