If it does show up on Carfax, it would be detrimental.

Even the recent Carfax commercials start with "Show me cars that have no accidents".

I told my dealer that when I changed my front wheel bearings sometime ago that two of the lug studs were stripped and had been cross-threaded. I only mentioned it since as far as I could remember, they were the only ones to change the wheels since I had them put on. I didn't accuse them of doing it, or anything like that, just asked if they would be sure the tech hand starts the lug nuts before using the air gun to tighten them. The service manager apologized that there had been a problem, and comped me the air cleaner and the cabin air filter on that service, which was more then fair to me, as I didn't even say they had done anything wrong. If the OPs dealer offers to fix his truck for free as they have admitted that they screwed up, that seems to be a fair deal. Maybe a free loaner while in the shop, and a discount for the next service, something like that, but NOT a new truck.

Excellent condition trade KBB. They are being fair and trying to make up for their mistake.

Exactly, l am picky about my vehicles and they said they did not think i would be satisfied with the repair. It probably will cost them less money selling me the new one versus fixing the old one too.

I dont think I demanded a new vehichle. Asked about it. Like I said I am asking what I should do. I have not had an issue like this before. It wasnt until I talked to some co workers and they talked about diminished value and new truck. That is why I came on here asking for advice.

My point was that it can be detected, no need to see it on Carfax, also after telling one potential buyer about the dent in my truck he said he was no longer interested. So people do care and it can affect the bottom line when trying to sell or trade, warranted or not. It's a fairly new truck, even if I had caused the damage on my own truck and my insurance was paying to have it fixed I would have it done right, all new parts. It's what insurance is for, that is what I pay insurance for. The dealer has insurance for this stuff, it doesn't come out of pocket. The OP has to right to have it fixed to original specs.

In my case it was storm damage that occurred in my yard, I paid out of pocket to have it fixed because it was such a small repair my deductible would have been most of the cost anyway, in the end it ended up being about 250 more out of my pocket.

I think you have a legitimate point trying to get the diminished value of the truck.

At least the very first ding is over with. If they sanitize it, it should be all good.

The dealer did not tighten my oil drain plug on my 2014 TRD OR. The plug fell out on the freeway and I had it towed back to the dealer. They offered me a loaner and went through the entire truck. They said the motor was fine. I said no thank you.

I had to put up a fuss but ultimately they gave me trade in value on my truck what I paid for it in 2014. Sold me my 2016 at invoice. I would not expect a replacement vehicle for a ding.

+1, this is basically the same as minor transport and or delivery damage. How many trucks do think get damage prior to the sale and are fixed without anyone other than the dealer knowing about it? I bought a 1993 F150 that had a minor ding in the tailgate. I am sure someone at the dealership saw it but they just blew off fixing it hoping the buyer would not see it. I made them paint the whole tailgate. Fortunately I could drive it without the gate. I also noticed that one of the cables had slack in it. They fixed it by driving around the lot until they found one on another truck that worked. Now there was another F150 with slack in one tailgate cable.

You couldn't pay me to let a dealership do even the most basic of maintenance on my truck

just demand for a new tail gate (painted from factory) and a new tail light then its all done..

it wont be reported to carfax as it probably wont be reported at all.. its all factory.. no paint detector will determine that it was damaged.. unless there is a vin sticker on the tail gate.. other than that.. no one will tell or ever know.. how you got to the point of a new truck over a broken tail light and a dented tail gate is beyond me.. you need to find more informed co-workers..

I would upgrade to a TRD at a discount if you can.

Kinda same thing happened to me, I was gonna buy this used 09 Tacoma, I test drove it and asked them to put it up on a lift so I can inspect the bottom of truck. It's mint clean and the salesman was backing out of shop and hit a radiator flush machine or whatever it is.

He cracked the taillight and I wasn't mad. I didn't want the saleman in trouble cause he was a cool dude. I told him to say you just noticed it and give me a better deal.

Well, the salesman actually told the manager the truth and manager took a $1,000 off the price lol.

Btw, I put a piece of clear gorilla tape over the crack and drove it like that for a year. Traded it in like that too lol. It's hardly noticable.
