It won't show on Carfax if they don't report it. Just because they own the body shop doesn't mean something does or does not get reported. If it is repaired internally under the dealership's 67D account, then no, nothing gets reported. If the dealership repairs it under the dealership Incidental Damage Insurance, then it will get reported to Carfax, regardless of owning the shop or not.

The OP could just as well made a simple mistake of leaving his own truck in neutral. Truck rolls back out of the driveway and hits a neighbor's car. Now the OP has to file an insurance claim to fix both HIS truck, and the neighbor's. Accident's can happen. I'd rather the dealer do it and fix it at THEIR expense than mine.

Big difference between you looking at buying a truck owned by the dealership, and having one you have ALREADY owned for 4 months get damaged during a service. Apples to oranges there.

lol, you want a new truck?

The most you could ask for is a new tailgate, instead of having bodywork done to it. That's what I would do, ask for a new tailgate already painted and a new tail lens.

I would see if they are willing to simply trade the tailgate and light from your truck to another one on the lot with the same color. No body shop, no insurance claim for car fax, no loaner, and no fuss.

DEMAND a new truck and don't settle for anything less. It's the least they could do for you.

    tailgate and tail light?

fuck get em to put in a new tail light and tail gate. job well done.
why would you need a new truck with a little bump?
just make sure the bed is aligned properly, tell them you want a new tail gate (not a repaired one) and a new tail light.

As long as it isn't through insurance and they don't claim it as been in an accident who cares? Truck hasn't lost any value.

    I hate my generation.
My god I'm gonna need to be old with all these people thinking they're entitled to some shit.
So happy I wasn't raised like a typical millennial.

Yeah! Who the hell raised all these terrible millennials anyway!?

As a side note, brand new vehicles can be damaged to a degree, then be fixed and still sold as new. And this guy wants a new truck for a tail gate dent haha.

Considering both damaged parts are easily taken off and replaced, it shouldn't take longer than 5 minutes to make it 'like new' again. Try and get them to fix it and throw in some cash or a warranty extension.

I'm happy I was the youngest of the family, one of my sisters actually falls into I think gen Y? whatever is right before millennials. and I'm right at the beginning of the millennial gen. So didn't get raised with all this bullshit.

Seriously we get these new apprentices at work that are born 96 or later and holy fuck do they ever think they're entitled.
a few weeks ago we actually had one that said 'I shouldn't need to do garbage duty I'm entitled to actual electrical work'
he was transferred by the end of the week. dumb ass is 2 months in the trade and thinks he shouldn't need to clean up.
The crew I'm with has already had 8 grievances filed against us that we're supposedly 'too harsh'. Welcome to construction you little twats, no one will wipe your ass and your mommy can't keep your job for you. You were mislead as a child, you do not get rewarded for being a failure in the real world.

I think the early 90s should be left out of the 'millennial' generation. We're different than the late 90s+ that's for sure.

why should they extend the warranty?
there is no mechanical damage just cosmetic.
Replace the parts so you don't need to worry about a shotty repair that may have the paint peal and rust later and no need for warranty.
Why the fuck should people be gifted with extended warranties when a little thing like this happens?
Its not like the dealer is telling him 'we damaged your truck, but we're not fixing it'

At most maybe throw in a few free oil changes but shouldn't be getting anything more.
Why do people always need so many extra hand outs for a minor inconvenience?
Have them replace it with new parts and get on with your day. Not something to lose sleep over.

This really sucks, but everyone is right, they are only liable for the damages they caused. No new truck. I would say throwing in an extended warranty along with the repairs would be a good faith gesture that would be nice to happen. I recall when I was kid, one of our neighbors custom ordered a brand new Ford Country Squire station wagon. They were called to come pick it up. When they got there, the car had been left halfway in the garage and when the garage doors were lowered, it smashed the car down the middle. Now they got a new car! lol
