That is what they said about every other generation too. Millennials are going to look like hard asses compared to what is coming up next.

The dealership will turn the case over to their insurance company. Their insurance company will handle it just like any other fender bender one of their claimants is responsible for....they'll have you get a quote, pick a repair shop of your choice, then likely cut you or the shop a check for the repairs. Insurance companies don't stay in business by writing checks for new trucks with minimal damage. Sucks that it happened, but that's why companies have liability insurance.

Shit, ding no scratch, I'd use that to my advantage. Since I do most of my own work Id ask for the Pro tail and sell me one at cost. Then I'd get my Pro grille and see how long you can get employee discount. I'd be as cool and well, cool as I can and not be an asshole. That discount, in the VAG world, will go a loooooong way! No need to send to body shop.

the dealership would never use insurance on something like this.

Why would they use insurance when they get labor at internal cost?

Oh for sure. If they tell you it's repairable, fight that shit. Tell them you no longer feel safe behind the wheel of this brand new vehicle. If they laugh at you, take it up the corporate ladder. This is serious business malpractice. Don't all you entitled millenials agree?

Well, I'm basing that on the assumption that the damage is higher than their deductible, it cost them less to have the insurance company handle it, rather than them paying for it out of pocket. Again, thats what insurance is for.

If the dealerships deductible is $1k each occurrence, and damages are $2-3k (obviously I'm guessing), why not let the insurance handle it, pay all the costs and send the dealership an invoice for $1k.

Let's not be mean here. You can't get what you don't ask for so I think OP is on the right track. But why stop at a new SR5? Only a Pro will suffice for the mental anguish caused by a dented tailgate.

It is if you press your insurance for it. If they are trying to avoid using their insurance then you could press them for it.

They have to make you whole. That's what they owe you in a situation like this. If you lost $1000 in value even after they fix it, then they owe you that to make you whole.

The problem is: you have to be able to prove the value of your vehicle before the accident. So unless you had a written offer letter of $30k and now your car is valued at $29k, it's going to be pretty tough to prove exactly how much value it's lost. Most insurance will give you some extra for it but probably not what you expect.

I love all the millennial bashing in this thread...by all the old farts who raised them.

What's that say about your generation? These are your kids.

I received a fender bender in a parking lot and the gentlemen went looking inside the restaurant for the owner of a black Toyota Tacoma (nice guy).Long story short collected from the insurance and decided to take off the disappointed plastic bumper and replace it with a Fab Four bumper. Things turned out better and the end. Be positive and let them fix it and hope for the best, it did for me. Dont get me wrong it sucks and it hurts.

Didn't read any the 114+ responses so I may be WAY behind (why change now).

IMO, it should be viewed as any other ding happening anywhere you'd take the truck for work. In other words, if it wasn't the dealer but Jiffy Lub, would you get a new ride? I think no.

I'd expect a decent repair and hope for some other offer to help make things right. Ask them to provide free routine maintenance for the time you own the truck and/or maybe provide any extras you buy at cost?? Maybe provide you an extended warranty?? Be creative but reasonable enough for them to be willing to do you enough right to help them save face.

Pics of the damage? Is it enough to affect future value once repaired?

Was the T4R not titled yet or another customer?

We have that going on at work too. Fucking HR caters and protects these types. You have to tell them they're doing great and deserve a gold star even though they suck and a higher up has to wipe their asses at the end of the day.
Next morning comes around, the clueless look on their faces is priceless when the job is done, but their egos only grow outta control from there, and the management allows this when they haven't got a clue.

If you used insurance every time you needed it, they wouldn't be able to afford it. Also fixing this truck is going to cost under a grand I'd bet.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
For those that don't know...the Millennial Generation starts in the late 70' early 80's. Some use '76 as a starting point and it ends in '95. People born in '96 and later are Generation Z.

Millennials aren't those born around the Millennium, but those whose formidable years occurred during the millennium.

I am a Millennial. Quit confusing us with those damn Gen Z'ers.
