I was told I needed a new Tacoma frame due to rust perforation. They said they'd pay for rental car and would call me when it came it. It's been two weeks and I called the dealer. He said it was ordered and had no idea when it would be in. Question: How long does it take to get your frame replaced once they tell you it's no good?

I got nothing in writing from the dealer after my inspection. They told me they couldn't close out the work order until the frame was replaced. Wondering if it's safe to drive? It looks nasty. any opinions appreciated.

1 solid week, maybe close to 2 weeks. They'll give you a loaner.

Not trying to be a killjoy, but remember there is a backorder on parts from Japan after all the disasters they've had. I heard on the news today that the import of parts has just been increased. Just a thought....

They had mine for almost 3 weeks, most of that time was just waiting for toyota to ship the frame and parts. Not much you can do other than just be patient, it really isn't up to the dealership until the parts get there.

I just went back to my notes and it took less than 2 weeks for mine about a year ago. Yes, I had to wait for a new frame before I took it in. They replaced a boat load of parts, including rear springs. It's dam new like new. Going to get my 01 a new paint job this fall.

Is there a LIST of parts that are automatically included with any frame replacement?? The dealer is trying to sell me all kinds of replacement parts and I'm worried I'll buy something that should be included in the frame replacement.

I had the frame swap on my '02 DC done over the winter. It took over 3 months. I did get to beat the crap :smash: out of the Corolla they gave me for a loaner, though it did suck driving that piece of :censored: in snow for half the winter! :frusty:

Originally I was told it would take about 2 weeks by my "Service Adviser", but the mechanic that I took the test ride with said that they were taking closer to 4 weeks. Every time I'd call to check on the status, I'd get a different story. After about 2 months, I was told they had everything but the frame, and that they wouldn't see the frame for at least 2 more weeks. When the frame finally came in, they said that they were still waiting on a box of parts. What? Then they called me the next day to say it was done, but didn't do any of the extra work that I was originally quoted with the half price labor.

To answer you question, once the parts are all in, it shouldn't take any longer than 3 days. I don't think they will let you drive your truck until it is fixed, probably trying to prevent any additional lawsuits.

As for which parts are included, I was told they replace anything that is attached to the frame: mounts, brake lines, leaf springs. Anything that needs to be removed, like shocks, can be replaced free of labor, if you pay for the part. Any other work (like your clutch) would be half price labor, plus parts.

    Hope this helps.

Frames are stateside...JB Hunt specialized delivers them when the orders are placed...

AGAIN I will repeat...MAKE YOUR SERVICE WRITER your best friend NOW....He or she can give you EXACTLY what is included in the FRAME SWAP...not all the extras...just whats covered....then you and the SW can price any additional parts( with or without labor charges)..;)

My struts and shocks were replaced for the price of parts ONLY....the old would have had to come off the old frame anyway...cheaper for the dealer and myself...just bolt on new !!!

TW is so popular that you will read 2 days to 2 years for this process, new frames rusting out faster and every other BS that the internet can handle....Do your own "homework" carefully and the end result should make you and Toyota happy..

    GOOD LUCK.....

All depends on when they get all the parts in. Did they look over your truck and see what might need to be replaced thats not included in what toyota replaces with frame? Our dealership does that which helps out customer and the techs so they dont have to try and save or put back on a part thats going bad and should be replaced.

Mounts are not included btw in the frame swap.
