Hey everyone. I got my first Tacoma on Saturday, 2017 Off Road. I don't have the auto lights and I realized tonight I am just leaving the lights on everywhere I go and I don't notice until I pull into the garage.

They don't give me the idiot ding when I shut off the truck or open the door. It does tell me on the dash but I don't look at the dash when I get out.
Is there a way to get an audible reminder that the lights are on? How long do they stay on when I leave them on?

I am sure this is one of a few dumb questions I'll come up with over the next few weeks.

Mine turn off about a minute after I leave the truck. No real need to remind me. Double click the lock button on your fob to turn them off...

Using the on-screen set-up, you can customize many settings for your truck like: time the headlights stay on after you shut the door, unlocking 1 or all doors, etc.

Ok, so if I just leave my lights in the on position all the time they will automatically turn off even though I don't have the automatic headlight option? If that is true then that is awesome.

Yes, I don't have auto headlights either, but they'll shutoff automatically after turning off and locking the truck. There's an option in your menu to change how long you want the lights to stay on after as well.

On my wife's new Camry, you can push the lock button on the remote twice and the lights will go off. If you don't do that, they stay on for about a minute. You might try that with your Tacoma. BTW, Welcome to TW!

Definitely check the settings. I was able to change mine to go off when I open my door.

    I'm with you OP...

I want to hear a ding when I leave them on after getting out...

I know they will shut off but I'm used to hearing a ding when I do leave them on...

I don't think there is a setting for that though...

Hitting the lock button 2x will turn the lights off.

The truck is smart. When you lock it they turn off so they don't kill your battery.

Yes. They turn off automatically. (Well, they do in my SR5 model).

They all turn off automatically. The Automatic Headlight feature is totally different, it turns the headlights on automatically when the sensor tells them it's dark outside.

So there is a setting to turn off when door is open? I have 2017 ORDC premium and technology package.

Wife killed the battery in my Tacoma by leaving the headlights on while at work. When she got home (after a jump of course) I checked the settings and tested it and yeah the lights turn off in 30 seconds... I still don't know how she left the headlights on all day.

That said I now "clean up" the truck as I shut it off... doesn't have the idiot-ding like our Corolla does. Wish it did.

Should be, I have that option in my '16 sport double cab. I don't remember exactly where it was at in settings (if I remember to, I'll check tomorrow), but there is something that mentions the headlights off delay, and you just select 0 seconds.

I had a Scion tC before I bought my Tacoma, and those lights would automatically turn off when I opened my driver's door after turning it off too. I got used to that, so when I noticed my lights were staying on for a while in the Tacoma, it bothered me and I was able to fix it through the settings.

Most toyotas I've been in including my dads 04 Tacoma and my 16 SR5 would, after shutting off the car, shut off the headlights as soon as I open the door. This time of year I would leave the headlights on because I go to work when its still dark and get off as it's getting dark.
