Recalls were issues for those effected by the waste-gate issue. Some never got the recall done, thus some lingering stories still.

Last year I traded my Tacoma on a new Camry, now I'm thinking about going back to a 2024 Tacoma Pro. The turbo charged motor is O.K with me, but I can't live with a hybrid or anything EV. Tired of the government telling me what I can buy or do. Guess I will look at a Chevrolet Colorado or a Jeep Wrangler.

Buy the pro and disconnect the hybrid and pull out the batteries.

No can do. I will look elsewhere. I don't want anything to do with that type of technology.

I get it and it sucks. I can live with the turbo 4, but will not and can't go with anything hybrid and EV. Wanted a Non-Hybrid Pro, but the government is forcing this hybrid/EV crap down my throat! Hate the way the world is going!

Well you're not buying a EV/hybrid so you don't need to feel forced now. I"m looking forward to a BEV Tacoma. Perfect for my needs.

Does the fact that the turbo 4 has 8 less valves, 4 fewer injectors, 1 less head, no coolant crossover, etc vs the V6 factor in to the complexity argument? Or are we just going with turbo=complex?

    I had a 1997. For just over 20 years.
I enjoyed a TRD supercharger on that V6 5VZFE engine.
Zero maintenance on the engine beyond routine oil, coolant, and timing belt changes.
A testament to Toyota engineering on that particular power plant.

I like turbos, but I will not do hybrids/EV. The future is absolutely not todays battery tech. Until they fix that, I am not interested. I really doubt straight EVs are the near future. There are way too many logistical issues and they aren't nearly as "green" as claimed. And look at the Jeep 4xe. Adds what, 700 lb battery? And the range is a laughable 21 miles on battery. Until batteries are WAY smaller and lighter, they really won't have a place on anything much harder than fire roads. That's probably why they aren't selling. EVs are worse. Heavy and extra batteries won't fit in a jerry can.

Well those were terrible when they came out. Those little chrome switches started having issues almost immediately and the motor and gear assemblies were a constant fight. It took a while to get that all worked out.

I am with you on the pure EV side. I do think that hybrids are a good compromise with less battery weight and greater efficiency.

For "pure EV me", 200-300 miles of range in 15 minutes (max) of charging, and those high kV chargers as convenient as gas stations or rest stops, it will be a game changer. Battery tech: lower weight, reduced volume, fast charge times, 150K+ lifetime, relatively easy to diagnose and replace (cost) and recyclable at the end of their life are the promise. Solid state is apparently the future, and it gets closer every year. Commercially 2027-28? Too optimistic, probably.

George Carlin: “Q: Why are we here? A: Mother Earth wanted plastic”. We’re a blip on Earth’s geologic timescale. It was just fine before us, and will be just fine after us. In the interim, there’s nothing wrong with a bit of responsible stewardship. But barring that, if we jack up the planet short term, we get to suffer the consequences. If we don’t survive it, that’s just one more biological experiment that failed. If we do survive it, great!

I remember when the Tundra came out. People complained about the V8. Saying toyota doesn't know how to build V8's and with a DOHC 32valve it wouldn't last in a truck application.
