Hey guys I'm new here, figured I'd introduce myself.

I just purchased a 99 tacoma, TRD off road, 5 speed with only 4,000 miles on it. I couldn't resist, the thing looks brand new.

Any recommendations on maintenance/things I should replace given the age of it and limited use? It was always on the road, records show it passed CA emissions inspections every 2 years, 1 owner. I'm wondering if there's anything specific I should look for. Any recommended frame rust prevention (especially since I live in the northeast)? There are no records of it being taken in for recalls for the frame.

Thanks! I'm pretty excited about it. I've been looking for the right 1st gen for a long time. It wasn't cheap, but hopefully I'll have it forever.

It was stored away somewhere in California. I don't have much in terms of records other than the carfax. Inspection records show it was driven a few hundred miles a year and never taken off the road... So it wasn't just sitting for 15 years or anything.

WTFFFF 4thousand miles? I've put more on my truck in the last 4 months than that.
Leave the truck stock, completely stock. You have a gem of a truck, no point in messing that up

It's possible, there is a guy I used to work for who has a storage building with a few cars in it and one of the cars is a 2000 Tacoma. He bought it when I worked there and he drove it for a few months then parked it. A friend stills works for him and he said he will go and started and move it every now and then but it has less then 10k on it.

    Anyway sweet truck.

that is amazing. what a find. I have no idea how to answer your question as I have never had a car that old in that good of shape. good luck. If it were me I would change all the fluids including the radiator fluid for a start. maybe look at the belt(s) also.

    Wow, congrats!
To answer your question about maintenance, I would say the obvious oil changes and check the belts. Even though there is not much wear on them, the rubber tends to get brittle just because of age. Also, go through and grease everything just in case that had not been done (although it does look like the previous owner had taken good care of it).
If it was mine I would not even drive it in the winter, but I guess you bought it to use it, so make sure the frame gets treated.

    Anyway, awesome find, enjoy it!

Thanks, I definitely will change all the fluids. Do you think the timing belt should be replaced given its age?

I think I'll do a Krown undercoating once a year, hopefully that helps.

    Yes, it has the Locker
