2.5 lift, the usual that goes with it. Work in progress.
Great engines as long as maintenance is kept up. There's folks on here that have many more miles than that and still running

    Kyle,

You can't base your decision on what to do until you verify some things. The only thing you have been told by your friend is that it was running rough, and a shop claims this was due to a blown head gasket. You need to legitimatize the blown head gasket before you go any further. There are a thousand things that can make a truck with 356,000 plus thousand miles run rough.

I do agree with you that you might be shopping for a used engine, but you need to eliminate some things first.

I am going to PM some contact information if you want some direct help with this.

    Good Luck,
    Paul

Well guys here she is. Turns out she is a 2000 instead of a 99. I ended up driving it home 15 miles without it getting over half way up the temp gauge. Had alittle trouble getting it started and it smoked for awhile and then ran good. Planning on doing a compression check this week. I looked under the truck and didn't find any rust other than what appeared to be surface rust.

Looking good! It'll be a great project truck. If it's not too damaged, you can salvage and resale. Good deal OP.

    Hey Kyle,

Congratulations on finally getting it home. It looks decent from the picture you showed us. The compression test will tell you a great deal about the condition of the engine. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

    Good Luck,
    Paul

I ended up skipping the compression check and tore into it. When the engine is turned over the cooling system is pressurized so definetly a major problem.

Well I got everything back together and the truck won't start! I made sure I took a lot of pictures so I'll vacuum lines and connectors are hooked up correctly. I made sure I paid extra attention to all the timing marks so I would screw that up as well. The truck turns over good but there is no spark. What are some things to look for?

    Hey Kyle,
What did you do to the engine while it was apart?
    Take it easy,

    Hey Kyle,

You certainly have done a lot of work on it. Did you have a machine shop check the condition of the head?

    Good Luck,
    Paul

Yep head is good to go. Just wondering if it could be the crank sensor or something like that

    Kyle,

You, obviously, have worked hard on trying to get your Tacoma to run. The one thing that worries me about your effort is you don't know the condition of the lower block or piston rings so I hope your effort has not been futile. We are only going to find this out once you get it running.

    Good Luck,
    Paul

Right but what would cause the no spark problem?
