The third gen has been out four years now. Toyota has slowly been addressing defects, and adding features. The only issue with the transmission is that fifth and sixth gears are really similar overdrive gears so at high highway speeds it hunts back and forth on cruise control. That can be controlled by locking out sixth, or even fifth if desired.

Because of the feature creep, the price has gone up. Toyota packages those features into big blocks of goodies. So, if you want a moonroof, you pretty much have to get everything else. That ends up being sticker shock for a lot of folks. Doesn’t really bother me. I’d still rather buy a loaded Tacoma over nearly everything else on the market.

The Tacoma and 4Runner still have the highest resale values on the planet. If you buy something and change your mind later, you aren’t going to lose your shirt unless your initial deal sucked and some southern California dealer raped you.

Yeah I can see what you mean, but the frontier is kinda like the truck equivalent of the flip phone. Some ways good, some ways bad. But honestly it still gets the job done from a truck perspective.

The Frontier is cheaper because it's a 15 year old truck. There is nothing there to drive up the price.

I had an '09, and it was absolutely reliable. I didn't have to do a thing to it other than basic maintenance.

I've had a couple 4runners and my Tacoma. Having enclosed space is sometimes nicer than worrying about leaving stuff in the bed. It's also a lot of usable space with the seats folded down

I work with Nissan dealers that even make fun of how bad the quality of their cars are. My ex had a frontier and it was a rattle box. The paint also randomly started falling off the a pillars

Not quite the same, though. The Ranger was no longer being sold here.

My truck has been absolutely solid. No doubt in my mind that i will have 10-15 years of trouble free miles.

True in a sense. But there is a pretty big difference between some surface rust and frame delamination and rot. It’s proven Toyota frames in the Tacoma and tundras were faulty. Hence the class action lawsuits, buy backs and frame replacements. Not saying frames on other trucks can’t and haven’t rotted out. Maintenance can help extend the life of any frame, but if the compounds in the frame aren’t right and the coating is crap, it’s not going to take long before an average owner starts having some big problems.

I think this is a legit question under most circumstances. Just because it’s asked doesn’t mean it’s racists. If the Tacoma was produced in Japan and the US people would be asking the same question.

in regards to that question, Atleast for the first 2 models years the production at the Mexico plant was a lot more hands on, where in Texas the plant had a lot more automation. Mexico plant still had manual welding in some cases where the production in Texas that was completely done with robotics. Even 2 plants in the US could have and do some processes differently, resulting in different outcomes, especially in terms of quality. Having recently within the past couple of years took a new job in manufacturing I understand a lot of this now. Especially since our company has plants in Japan, Thailand, Africa and the US. You can believe that there are completely different results that come from the same tire design out of the different plants, even though the chemical makeup and molds are all suppose to be identical.

Actually it is not a stupid question. Fading of the color blazing blue pearl is limited to the vins starting with 3. There is a thread on TW addressing this issue.

They're cheaper vehicles though. Build quality from a fit and finish perspective definitely isn't the greatest on the Frontier and Xterra, but the underpinnings are solid, and the powertrains are excellent.... very reliable.

Nissan basically said F it with respect to the interior and focused on the areas that truck buyers care most about... cost, durability/reliability, engine, transmission and utility.

This attitude is very much what is wrong with America at the moment.

I'd like you to explain how that "borders on being racist"

If I were a mod I'd ban you in a second. Racism is horrible, race baiters are worse.

Because something being made in Mexico, by Mexicans doesn't mean it has lower quality than the ones built in Texas. Toyota's standards don't drop because Mexicans are making it. That mindset is racist, and has been discussed a million other times on here.

And I honestly don't care if someone with no posts thinks I should be banned. lol

You can tell from your VIN, and if I'm not mistaken, all AC's are build in Texas. Or at least they were.
