Or you could do nothing and be totally fine for 10 plus years. Do you see yourself owning this truck for 15 years ? If not you don’t have to worry about the frame. 10 years so far with Canadian winters and it’s still solid, original owner.

I would still be running my '02 SR5 if rust didn't get it, so yes I want to keep it till it dies or I do.

I'm gonna open another can of worms. Or reopen

In my first post I mentioned the Toyota dealer said they offer WaxOyl, at $894. I forgot that when I saw the price. Then I ran into the BossWax/NHOU at probably over $1000 and lost track of WaxOyl. But now I went back, and it looks like WaxOyl claims a one-time job with warranty and annual touch-ups.

I have to ask them why Boss Wax is followed by the oil treatment and WaxOyl has nothing like that. I roughly understand that the oil stuff goes after the wax, and does more of creeping into gaps and cracks and holes and all.

Anyway, here's the can -- there isn't much mention in this thread of the Wax jobs. What do y'all think?

I try not to overthink this corrosion issue with these tacoma's. Cosmoline has been around forever, both bmw, and mercedes send their vehicles out with it. There's a lot of 50 cent names out there that will probably do the same for more, so just grab a 6 pack of rp-342 cosmoline, follow the directions, and have at it.

Well, after chewing on this for a long time, I have to decide. I just can't undertake doing it myself. I'm 74 now, and pretty burnt out on a lot of stuff. When I was way younger the engine in my VW Squareback blew up, and I got excited to rebuild it. Bought all the parts, read the books, did it, and it ran great. But I'm not like that any more. So I'm looking for a place to take my new truck to, and have <something> done, whatever I settle on.

I guess I'm attracted to the idea of a one time something with a warranty, rather than annual. The wax jobs are the only ones that seem to offer that. Cosmoline sounds longer lasting than a lot of others, but I don't see any cosmoline outfits.

    So, the remaining questions:

    * are the wax jobs similar in their ingredients?
    * do they work sorta similar? (touches on the question of why does Boss Wax get followed by an oil?)
    * is a warranty for a rust product worth anything? I haven't been able to find out how long Boss Wax has been on the market, or even the NHOU company, how long has it been in business.

When I did mine a couple of years ago it was only available at Home Depot and Amazon. Paid $60 for a case of 6. Had 2 full cans left, and it was put on heavy.
It's now available at HF, Napa, & others and still runs roughly $10 a can. So 4 cans @ $40 bucks total should more than cover it nicely.

I understand the beauty of a 'one & done' arrangement. But honestly, in a severe weather state + salt, I'm more comfortable with a yearly or two inspection and refresh.

Well, the local BossWax + NHOU calls for inspections and touch ups, and so does the Toyota dealer, with their WaxOyl.

I agree. I'm exhausted with myself. But this is a new truck and it's a big chunk of my savings (I'm retired, and cant live on Soc Sec) and I lost my '02 SR5 from rust cause I didn't do much about it.

But yeah, hope I finish up and just DECIDE something today. Of course it's been hard to make sense of the honest differences of opinion <giggle>. And I started from knowing almost nothing about it. I'm not dumb, but I am ignorant.

Hard to stay in business when doing just cosmoline coatings. These guys need a steady income year after year with stuff like fluid flim, or any of the lanolin based inhibitors. They won't have it with cosmoline. I've heard nhou has some new stuff that's pretty good, but know nothing about it.
I suffered a stroke some years ago around, 60 and now 70, but it didn't stop me from doing this. You gotta be always up for a challenge....and its a messy one at that.

Even with the best of self healing coatings, you're going to get minor touch-ups in high abrasion areas....especially around the rear wheel wells.

Well I'll put it this way mine doesn't really need it twice a year or every year for that matter but there are a lot of things going on under there and it gives me a chance to look at every thing. I'm 77.

As a retired proofreader, I'm surprised you can handle the rampant misuse of "your/you're" and "there/their/they're" on this forum. :D

Back to business- just pick a product and go with it. You're overthinking it. Anything is better than nothing, and unless you have a severe disability, you could handle doing it yourself with rattle cans.

I’m considering having my new 23 Sport undercoated. Found a company with good reviews that comes to you and does it. They use NHOU, don’t see a lot about it here at Tacoma world, mostly Fluid Film. Anyone use this NHOU ?
