My first post, I thought I would share my thoughts on my new truck. I bought a 2016 TRD Sport 4x4 in Blazing Blue Pearl about a month ago. I have driven Tacomas since 1987, I have had an 83, a 93 and an 05. Traded my 05 for the new truck, so I have lots of experience driving and working on Tacos. The 05 was a great truck. All day reliable and never had to spend any money on repair that I did not cause. I knew these trucks hold their value, but the dealer offered me 3K over the KBB value on the 05 and I talked him up from there. I just could not turn down the deal.

Ok, on to the new truck. So far, I like it. I did not like the way it shifted at first, but after 500-600 miles it seemed to settle down a lot. I do not feel the rapid shifting at highway speed that I felt when it was brand new. I do not have any of the buzzing feeling I have read about, and I have looked for that. No howling or any other strange noises either.

It does seem that I have to get further into the gas pedal to get up to speed than I used to in my 05, but it gets there pretty quick. Not a big issue for me. Other than that, driving it is nice.

This is a truck, not a car and I intend to use it as a truck. I love the damped tailgate, but I don't care for the redesigned bumper that took out the step I could use to climb in. I've seen the bedsteps online, and I may have to go for one of those. My bed mat from the 05 fit perfectly. A must have if you don't want stuff sliding around.

Interior is beautiful. I've read about the complaints about the entune system, and I don't get it. It works perfectly for me. I love all the info I can get on the entune and the instrument screen. Syncs to my Galaxy S6 perfectly.

Here is my main bitch about the new design. I have always had access cabs in order to have the extra bed space. Toyota, why in the hell did you change the design of the jump seats in the back? I never carry anyone on those seats, and in my 05 they just folded flat to the floor and made a perfect platform for dogs and cargo. The new design sucks all the space from the back. With the front seats all the way back (I'm 6'3") there is almost no usable space. Absolutely lousy design. Absolutely worthless rear seats, headrests and stupid console. If I wanted to put people in the back I would have bought a double cab. First mod will be take all that junk out and build a platform.

I feel better now. I really like this truck, and if it is as reliable as the 05 it will be worth every dime.

Agreed with the seats in back. I ordered the work truck so they take that crap out and it saved me $1700. Don't know who they think could use those seats??

No tonneau. I am an amatuer woodworker, so I frequently carry 8 ft lumber and plywood in the bed. I do like the extra tie downs they put in.

Mine made noticeable adjustments all the way to 1800 miles and fine tunning adjustments afterwards. I'm now at 9k and I can tell you that too has disappeared I just touch the gas now and it goes. But I don't recall when it did, sorry lol!
But full disclosure, I never had anyone touch or adjust my ATF level, it is as it came from the factory.

Glad you got it all out, and it will be just as good and reliable or better than the rest, just don't obsess over it or think there's something wrong just because someone says there is, look at the facts and you'll be fine.

    Hope that helps
    Cheers!
