I agree with you, first gens ftw! If it weren't for the frame rot problems, they would be perfect. If my frame ever gets so bad it needs to be replaced and Toyota wont do it, I'm just going to save up and have a custom frame built for it. There's a guy here in town that fabricates frames for Jeeps and bumpers and roll cages for all kinds of vehicles, pretty sure I could talk him into building me a superior Tacoma frame if I had the cash.

The folowing document was released today, detailing several sheduled changes to be found in the all new 2016 Toyota Tacoma:

    Engine:
The four cylinder engine will receive a new high compression head and glow plugs, to become our All new Deisel Engine.

    Transmission:
A major redesign enables a unique feature we like to call a dipstick.
A sweet new pushbutton Gear Selector will join the other convenient controls found on the steering wheel.

    Exterior:
Brand new fender flares in three new contrasting colors.
A stunning new 3rd brake light with directional arrows and cargo light.
Deeper, wider crosshatch ridges will hold almost twice as much mud in the bed as previously.
An additional D Ring will be conveniently located in the exact center of the composite bed.

    Interior:
Brilliantly redesigned cup holders will feature an increased diameter to accomodate actual coffee mugs.
The Entune Display head gets an all new glare resistant screen and a removable sun bonnet.
Siri will undergo a gender reassignment operation to promote the progressive attitude of the new Tacoma.
The Hood Release will be incorporated into the conveniently located Tire Pressure Reset.

    Optional Equipment:
    TRD emblazoned sun visors.
Bold new shorty radio antennae in coordinating colors.
TRD Sport Package will have heated mirrors in addition to accent led's snuggled within a boldly redesigned hood scoop.
Larger stiffer mudflaps, now with a quick release to double as snow shoes with the included genuine leather straps.
No Drill front licence bracket will help relieve the workload on hard working dealer prep crews.

We here at Toyota feel that you, our loyal customers, should benefit from our ongoing product development department. Fuck that crappy F150.

Glow plugs on an inline engine is unlikely, it will probably be compressed ignition and a heated intake in place of glow plugs. Cummins for example has used this setup since 1989 simply because it is more reliable than glow plugs. Only reason V8 diesels still use glow plugs is because of the layout of the engine or something along those lines I recall reading.

From what I've read, it said it will be like the refresh of the Tundra. New looks but same power train. I hope it isn't true though. I hope we get more power and a little more torque.

Unless they have done something about the poor quality frames, not interested at all and like ejl923 I like to wait til a truck has a bit of history before I buy it.

The drivetrain will absolutely not carry over for the V6. The mule just as much confirmed that.

I don't mind if they keep the frame, there was only a certain period when dana corp was making them that were bad. To me a frame is a frame, so long as the new tacoma has a frame Ill be happy, but I would like to see a new body, engine and transmission to compete with other trucks fuel economy. It's pretty bad when a full sized truck with 50% more hp gets better fuel mileage than our little ass tacos.

A lot. Check out my build page.
If the Tacoma design is outdated and no good anymore, why is it that every other manufacturers newest additions to the midsize truck market are basically copies of the Tacoma design? It's a top selling design that IS still appealing.

How are other companies copying the tacoma? The grey interior is in desperate need of a makeover. I will say the tacoma was ahead of its time for style which is why it lasted this long, but it's still dated, read the reviews over the last couple years. Cheap plastic's grey interior, lacking in lots of features.

Don't get me wrong, I love my tacoma, but mine is a 2005 and the 2015 is still the same truck. I would have gave toyota more of my money by now had they came out with a new redesign, I just cant justify spending $40k on the same truck.

Toyota rode the tacoma out for so long because it costs a lot of money to redesign and the mid size truck market isn't large enough to justify spending the money.
