I would guess the abs is different in the offroad so that it can be disabled for different terrain modes, down hill control, climb control etc.

Yes, I suspect it is for all the fancy pants terrain modes and crawl control stuff. I was under the impression (perhaps wrong) that in the 2nd gen the ABS is quite different for the OR package already for similar reasons. But in this case during the chat session the engineer specifically stated a number of significant differences between the OR and non-OR ABS system for the 3rd gen. Perhaps the 2nd gen has similar differences too, I just don't know that myself.

We won't know if its the same cab, box and body until Toyota releases measurements. I think that it will prove to be mostly new. They have already said there is a high usage of high strength steel and hot stampings for the body. So are they producing the same cab in new steel?

I agree this is NOT a full redesign. I think it's making sense economically for truck makers to redesign less-frequently and just update the bones. Nothing necessarily wrong with that. This Tacoma has grown on me IMMENSELY in the past day.... or maybe that is something in my pants growing???

You can tell by looking at it that its the same cab for sure, the box is also very similar just taller. If they were going to go back to the drawing board completely you would think they would shape it a little different at least.

If its similar to the 4runner it uses abs for the down hill assist also.

I will admit it looks similar but I still don't think we have enough proof to definitively say that the cab is identical mm for mm.

In the interview online with the two gentlemen from Toyota, they confirmed the dimensions being the same...

It seems a lot of people are stuck on the idea that the truck must take some completely different size to be a redesign. I'm confused by this logic. Many manufacturers make slight differences to a vehicle for a redesign.

I think the redesign is a victory for Toyota Tacoma fans. They did not soccermomize the Tacoma. I mean, look at the grown clearance on the off-road model! Many of us were lamenting the possible demise of the manual transmission. That in itself is gonna steal tons of sales away from the Colorado.
Is it the same bones as gen two? Seems so. And that is fine with me. I just wish we got more specs to kick around.

I'll admit it, I was upset it wasn't a ground-up redesign, but I am over that now. And I want one now. Bad.

If they didn't put a rear cargo light - or better(worse) yet, made it only available on Limiteds... they're idiots. Oblivious idiots. I think everyone could benefit from it, but what about the guy who buys this truck for his business, or the fleet Tacomas. Using a truck for work makes a bed light even more essential, and the Limited probably won't be the first choice for either.

And I see perforated leather, a seat heater button, but what about ventilated seats? Come the #$@^ on. No one likes seat induced swamp body. I'm curious as to what they did to the 2.7L. Retuned doesn't really imply new parts, and I can't imagine they could milk much out of it in terms of performance or fuel economy without changing out a lot of parts / the top end. If it's still in the 2nd gen 2.7L ballpark then

I very much so doubt the 2.7L with a retune is going to wow us with fuel figures, and surely the 3.5L wouldn't exceed the 2.7L - so I think we're going to be disappointed when the numbers finally come out. Yeah okay, it's a new Tacoma so we shouldn't expect any crazy jumps from the last... but it's now 10 years later. If the v6 isn't 25+mpg hwy then I just don't get the point.

So, no diesel it seems. That's fine for me because I never wanted one. I bet you Toyota has a contingency plan if the baby Duramax ends up being a hit. It's a chess game with these automakers. That's why you aren't seeing full specs right now. Nissan is fixing to pounce next.
