Hey guys, just got an 06 tacoma, trd sport, 4x4, double cab, 59k miles today. I got it for 15,500 which I thought was a good deal. Anyways, when I went to look at it/buy it today the first thing I saw was the wheels and how they have chipping/flaking paint on them. These are the oem trd sport wheels. Is this a common problem?

Also the temp/compass doesnt work, I hear this is a common problem, could it just be a fuse?

Then on the test drive, I heard a weird noise coming from up front. It is like a pretty quiet humming noise. It happens only when moving at various speeds, I didn't notice it doing it at a certain rpm or anything. Has this happened to others before, did a search but it didn't come up with much.

Then the maintenance required light came on during the way home, from my understanding it is just a oil change indicator. Im sure there is an easy way to get rid of the light because ill be changing my own oil. Ill look it up unless someone wants to tell me real quick.

    Heres a pic

I did some more research and it sounds like the humming could be a wheel bearing? What do you guys think? Is this very common?

Sounds normal for those rims when used for 6 years.

Yes, common problem with the temp-compass, might be fixable. I don't have a link to the fix but I'm sure someone will chime in.

Noise from the front could be a wheel bearing or maybe the front differential CV shaft bearing. Does the noise go away if you shift into 4WD? If so, it's probably the CV shaft and there's a fix for that from ECGS is that's what it is.

I think the maint light means get an oil change.

Just off the top of my head, sorry for the quick reply.

    Oh yeah, nice looking truck!

Nice truck. Temp/compass is a easy fix, just did mine. At 59k and you just bought it, you should do a major service due at (60k) replace all fluids, filters, spark plugs and lube job. Check your maintenance book it will have all the required service intervals. This site is awesome has a lot of info you need to keep your truck running a long time for less money. Your noise could be the a/c compressor, I know mine makes noise.

2.5" lift in front, aFe air intake, anytime foglights, cut 9" off antenna, superwhite headlights, spintech exhaust, med. tint in the front, weathertech floorliners and caltech seat covers, dashtek dash cover, CHLM, debadged and destickered,
I bought my 06 with 33k for $23. 15,500 sounds like a steal. you could put $2000 in it and still come out ahead. good decision on the truck

I didn't have the ac/ compressor on so I don't know if that would be it. I will have to look into the wheel bearing issue though. But yeah I really want to do a 3in lift with some 33s. 6 in lift would be even better but I know I wont get any money back in the long run. I feel like most people would rather have a stock truck. I will look into the compass fix!
    Thanks guys
