Lure thrown. Fish caught. This board would be full of Sad Germans all over the place if those high tech pieces were in place on a Toyota.

I'll grant that I only have around 600 miles on my Tacoma, but I find some of this hard to believe. I also had a 2019 Ranger and a 2021 F150. The 10 speed in those trucks is smooth, but no smoother than my Taco. The Ranger's handling was ok, but again not close to the Taco. As far as ride goes, it's no competition. We're talking coils vs leafs. The ranger's back end bounced around every time I hit a bump. I do have a TRD OR, so maybe the Sport suspension is significantly stiffer. Also, I saw the Ranger Interior. It LOOKS nicer. It isn't built nicer. The plastics in the Taco are solid. The leather in the Ranger feels cheap. It will never last. Not sure what's going on with the review, and I'm sure the Ranger will be a good truck as long as Ford didn't screw it up with bad QC again. My 19 was in the shop quite a few times with warranty issues, and I've heard they've gotten worse since the pandemic.

If Toyota has carried over the gear hunting that is in the transmission of the 3rd gen I’m not interested in another Toyota. I’ve never driven any other vehicle that has that issue. Even putting it in etc mode the transmission still hunts for the right gear. Toyota also seems to go a little crazy with the nanny modes in their vehicles.

They fixed that issue with thr new 8speed. Many owners and people who have test driven them, my self included, have commented on how smooth and better it is.

Big Three always beat Toyota in comparison to power etc.. People buy Toyotas for reliability. Comparing Toyota to Ford, GM, RAM makes no sense really. If i had more money and didn't care about spending it in repairs I would have gone F150 long ago, or those beefy RAMs, Chevys.

I dumped a 2019 Ford Ranger for a 2023 Tacoma (3G) and consider the Taco better in almost all categories. If you told me they were neck and neck I'd be ok with it. Not going to quibble over that much of a difference.
Then considering that the 2024 Tacoma (4G) is better than the 2023 Tacoma, I can't see how they would put the Ranger over the Taco. Ford has done absolutely NOTHING but remove features and conveniences from the later models. Sound like someone at the Big Blue Oval was handing out handies to the judges.

Aren't you the one stating how the turbo 4 is going to be a reliability nightmare and nothing will beat the superior 3.5 minivan motor?

I test drove the new Tacoma and it does drive really nice . So much so that I would trade my 19 for a new one and spend 15- 20 k more . Not a chance . My current truck is totally fine .

agree. Had a 94 ranger ext cab 4.0L and 5 speed manual. Much nicer ride than the new rangers imo.

you mean to tell me an expensive vehicle with the benefit of forced induction requires a bit nicer fuel?

The tacoma is an expensive vehicle with forced induction that doesn't require premium fuel.

The output numbers are just a smidge different, though.

    You're also comparing a 3 liter v6 turbo to a 2.4 i4 turbo though.

The 2.4T is underpowered in typical Toyota fashion, which is fine because it’ll lead to a likely longer lifespan. The GM 2.7T is an inline-4 and also blows it out of the water.

Someone will make a downpipe and tune for the engine and truck owners can enjoy the tuner market now too.

I hate the idea of buying an expensive new truck and then having to pay for a tune to get it to run optimally. I know the factory tune is meant to balance for all uses but I wish the aftermarket tunes weren’t necessary.

Just test drove a new ranger this morning. XLT with FX4 package. It was nice and got up to speed fast but in the end I think I am still going to go with a Tacoma. They had that one and a Lariat on the lot as well as 2 more being delivered on Monday that were all unspoken for.

XLT with high tech, FX4 and tow is on my radar. What did you not like about the ranger?
