Consumer reports has never been accurate IMO. They default to Honda every chance they can and their reviews never seem realistic. When it comes to trucks they ask car reviewers and car drivers what they like and want in a truck. Doesn't seem very fair. The Ridgeline is a very specific crossover utility vehicle that does what it does well, and I know a few people with one that love it. Good for them, but just don't call it a truck.

I used to subscribe to CR, and relied heavily on their recommendations for many of the cars I have bought (almost all of which I was quite happy with).

Recently, however, I found out that CR allegedly did a hatchet job on the Suzuki Samurai SUV in 1988, rigging and repeatedly rerunning the test until the Samurai failed an avoidance maneuver test. Suzuki sued Consumer's Union, but the damage had already been done. The two parties settled out of court in 2004. According to one AP report, CR did it again to the 1995-1996 Isuzu Trooper.

I will not rely on or even consult Consumer Reports on any future purchases, vehicular or otherwise.

Ridgeline is a fine truck for its intended purposes.

Tacoma is a fine truck for its intended purposes.

And for the record, I would absolutely rock an El Camino.

The Ridgeline is a lovely vehicle that drives like a dream. Happy and proud my Taco is neither lovely nor dreamy!

Missing My Last Tacoma --- Had 11 Toyota trucks in the past and many other Toyota cars too.
I have had maybe a dozen of all types of Toyota trucks and 1 Ridgeline.

The Ridgeline was too car like for me.

However, IF I had a family and did not off road, the Ridgeline would be a good choice.

The QC on my Ridgeline was excellent though.

I absolutely loved my Ridgeline and it's AWD. But I love my Taco much, much more.

Miss the trunk and 2 way swinging tailgate

No offense, but a Ridgeline would go anywhere your 2wd could. Perhaps the difference in GC would limit the Ridgeline some, but let’s face it, tracks that rough may require a 4wd anyway.

Other places, the IRS may be an advantage. Elongated washboard roads, for instance.

Consumer Reports is only good for just assessing whether a car is reliable or not, and maybe for fuel economy. If you use it for factoring in any of the subjective attributes into the decision on buying a car like the appearance or interior materials or handling or engine power— they really don’t know what the hell they’re talking about. Ignore everything CR says except for what they say about reliability.

For whatever reason Honda can’t build a damn truck right... cars, they have it down...the ridgeline seems like a Honda Pilot with the cab cut to make a bed...

Funny! We had a friend who used his old el Camino like a truck, he was always fixing it, the thing was a stinky piece of shit car.

Really he wasn’t the brightest guy. He could have bought two Toyota trucks for all the money he put into that thing and we let him know it!

We also lived in Colorado, so when it snowed he didn’t go anywhere in the Camino. Can’t think of a worse vehicle in the snow! RWD, big tires, no weight in the back.

I appreciate the engineering behind the ridgeline unibody frame and how they managed to stiffen up the bed without the need for those fugly side panels the first gen had.
But yeah, it is too car like for my taste.
