And ask them what is coming in and when. I looked at my dealer's website then called and asked if the truck was still available. It was not even in yet but was scheduled for mid-July. I called 3 days later and they bumped up delivery to the the last week in June. I put money down and it was on the lot 5 days later.

The dealer said the one I got was not actually the one listed but they went out and found one for me. Great dealer.

I have been to my Toyota dealer a few times in the last couple of months for various reasons. Here's what I found. Very little actual inventory, but when I asked if that affected the commission and income on the sales folks, it was a resounding no. Sales guy (I wasn't shopping, so he was pretty open), stated that most folks know what they want, place a deposit, and just wait for it to come in, regardless of how long it takes. Another example was that he told me on one day, the truck showed up with 5 Tacoma's. 2 were presold, 2 were sold the same day, and he bought the 5th.

It's a crazy world in auto sales these days.

This is the place I bought from but that was pre-pandemic. Honestly, very nice folks. I live in NY, drove up and we got the deal done pretty quickly. I don't know what it is about those guys but for some reason they always have Tacomas. It's crazy really. Right now they have a total of 7, either on the lot or on the way. They even have 1 2020 SR still there. They also have 4 Tundras.

If you are anywhere near CT, I highly recommend those guys.

The two local dealers near me haven't had much of anything (Tacoma's, Tundra's and 4Runner's) for the past several months. One of those dealers got a shipment of about 5-6 new Tacoma's about a week ago. They were all black DCSB TRDOR 4X4's with only one of those having led headlights and only a few minor option differences between them. They all sold in less than a week. I just saw one of them at Lowes yesterday with a paper tag.

I was interested in the black one with led headlights, but I'm not paying msrp or above. When I bought my 2017 (December 2016) it was end of the month, end of the year, right after Christmas, and the dealer had over 30 of them on the lot.

I'll probably start looking next year (spring or summer) when better deals are available and inventory is up again. Now is not a good time to buy a vehicle if you can wait. :tumbleweed:

To be fair, it was never accurate. It just didn't matter because even if the listing was sold, there were probably 10+ on the lot in the exact config

You can still get a deal now depending on your luck and how manipulative you can be. It's just harder to find the balance between a salesman working for you because they have you "On the hook" vs them just abandoning a lost cause, taking the risk someone else will make the sale. They know the truck will sell either way, but they still want to be the one to sell it. The first taco I got in april before my current one was ~$500 above invoice if I remember correctly

Drove by Huntington Toyota on Long Island and they had 4 Tacomas pulled all the way up front of the lot. 2 Army Green, a white and an MGM. I was surprised at this, frankly.

I agree. Did my last two toyotacare visits there. When i went by a bit over a week ago they had over a dozen on the lot. I've dealt with them in the past, nice people.
