Go test drive the 04, see if you like it then go from there.

There are a few guys on here who have done what you are thinking about

Me personally I like the 2nd gens more. More power, more room inside. But the 1st gens are nice too.

It depends. I had the 2003 & a 2005 & now a 2011. I like the larger size of the 2nd gen over the 1st. I'm 6'4" and felt cramped in the 1st gen, much more comfortable in the 2nd gen. I tow a boat & had trouble stopping with the 1st gen, the 2nd gen no issues.

You also want to think of: How long you plan on keeping the vehicle & the what the future brings. You may need the space of the 2nd gen. Plus getting a 1st gen you take on any problems with the vehicle that the privous owner may have failed to pass on. Your 09, you have a good 140,000 miles before possibly any issues should arise. My 05 had a ujoint go bad @ 140000, wheel bearing @ 170,000.

I get where you're going OP. Thought about the same thing. Really like my 2010, but I'm finding it's more truck than I need. If I found a low miles manual 2004 TRD 4x4, I'd think of trading in a heartbeat.

Thanks. Kept the wheels from the 05 & had them install them on the 11. They had to pull the tpms valve stems out of the stock 2011 wheels & add them to my 05 wheels. The 05 didn't have the tpms.

You will need to fix the damage or you will lose your ass on the trade. Say the repair would cost $500. A dealer will deduct $1500 or more for the damage. My wife's 2007 camry had a scrape on the bumper when we were looking to trade for a new one. She had an estimate for the repair of $140. The dealer wanted to take $1000 off for the damage. We didn't trade her car.
