I didn't mean to knock your longer bars when i said it would look nasty im sorry for that comment. I never thought of it for extra space

I got Yakima rails, feet, locks, crossbars and fairing all brand new for less than $300. Yakima and Thule ftw!

no no, i never took it as a knock. in fact, i didn't even know you knew i had longer bars before i said anyhting.

as for extra space, i didn't really need it when i first got the rack (almost 4 years ago) but since then, my roof setup has changed a good bit, so everything between the towers is a mount for something speciffic, and the outer part is what i can use for anything else

can't beat em. they are just so strong and last forever.

i've worked part time as a mechanica at a bike shop since i was 16, so i've had a lot of experience with both companies' racks. i believe they are now rated for 150 lbs. however, a few years ago (before a lawsuit) they were actually rated for double that. they haven't altered the design any, but they had to lower the rated capacity due to the lawsuit. the suit was against them, arguing the fact that so much weight on the roof makes a vehicle very top heave and likely to roll over.

moral of the story: your rack will hold a good big more than what the warning sticker states...just a little fun fact :D

not one issue. when you open the door, the weatherstripping holds the shape of where it goes ove the clamp, but no tears in it or any leaks. and the paint looks just like it did day one. i usually have the rack off the roof one or two times a year, and whenever i have it off, i give the area it sits on a good clean and wax. that seems to take care of it very nicely
