As cooler temps settle in here in Southern Oregon I figured now is as good of a time as any to get my off season/winter wheels and tires on ol' black beauty. I picked up a set of used stock rims and promptly went at it with 4 coats of flat black plasti dip (40 mins or 4 beers between coats) and 2 coats of clear with silver flake over top of the black. I was afraid of having too much black on the truck and the clear with silver flake gave the wheels a really nice gunmetal finish. I was able to get a hold of some Goodyear Wrangler 235/85R/16 from a neighbor who ordered them for his T-100 then sold it before the tires came! The tires are snowflake rated, no chaining up for me and I'm excited to see how they handle in the mud and dirt this weekend if work allows.

Now all I have to do is wait for the snow...last year we got so little the resort didn't even open. What a great year to get new Skis and a season pass.

    HAHA!

I have put about 100 miles on the truck so far, there are no TPMS sensors in my new rims and my tire pressure light has yet to go off, does anyone know why this would occur?

The light won't go off because it's telling you that it can't find the sensors.

Yes the old rims and tires are mounted and aired up, they are about 20ish feet from the truck though on the side of my garage...

Oooh. I see. I did the same thing. I kept my stock wheels mounted and aired up in my garage and ran a set without sensors and my light stayed off. I could drive about 25 miles or so away from my house and then the light would come on.

    Spooooky!

and OP, those are great tires. I run those in "Snowmass" Colorado, and there are several tacomas out here that do as well. Hopefully you get good snow this year and can really test them out! and your skis too...

I get about 30 miles from the house before my light comes on. If I stay close to home the light never comes on. Tires with sensors are in the garage.

Interesting tire size combo. Can you post a frontal pic so we can see how skinny they look.

Op what did you use to get that gun-metal color on your OE wheels? Is is powdercoated that color? Or Derped? Either way look fantastic, OR's should have came with wheels that color to differentiate the wheels from the SR5 models.

I used flat black plasti dip, 4-5 coats with 40 mins in between coats. On top of that I used 2-3 coats of clear with a silver flake. I really liked the finish of the gunmetal gray TRD wheels so this is my homage to that!

Ill shoot a pic when it's light out. I've always understood that you want skinnier winter tires than summer so you can more easily and with more stability get through mud, slush, and snow.

I just bought a set of those tires a couple weeks ago. Lost a couple MPGs but other than that, so far so good! And they look great. I dig the gunmetal look you gave the rims! They're literally the first plastiderped thing I've seem that I like. I may have to do mine!
