Hello all so I got new wheels and tires the other day and the tired are used with about 50% tread left. They are goodyear wrangler AT/S 26570 17’s. I noticed when I accelerate now they make a louder than usual “whirly” noise that I didn’t experience with my old tires. It thought it was weird so I wanted to get some opinions on it. Now alignment is good. I feel no vibrations of any kind. It’s just when I get to about 45mph they get louder. They came off a 4runner. Should I be concerned about this? Is it just because the tired are worn? Are they unbalanced. Will this cause any damage to my vehicle?

All terrains in general are known for feathering, run your hand along the edges and see if there's any abnormal cupping or feathering.

What I would do is run them for a bit, then do a complete X tire rotation diagonally to reverse the tread direction and see if it can burn off the noisy tread.

Oh yeah I paid 400 for trd 17 wheels and tires package deal lol I don’t mind buying new tires but I just want to know if it’s causing any damage at all. They drive fine but like I said when I accelerate they get louder

Also with that being said, any recommendations for quiet 265 70 17’s? Just for daily drive no offroading

Maybe the noise is just different to your old tires so is more noticeable?

I think you’re probably right but I just wanted to see if this was a major problem. New to the tacoma world and I worry about this stuff. This is my first tacoma and it’s like my baby so I always double check this stuff with the tacoma gang haha

Tire noise is subjective. Some people say Defender LTX is the quietest, some say they’re loud. It’s all in your expectations and what frequencies you are sensitive to. I have Wrangler Ultra Terrains, they’re very aggressive but I think they’re quiet. Others think they are noisy.

If its just noise because they are worn all terrains they will just annoy you, if they are noisy because they are unbalanced, thats not the best for the bearings and front end parts.

I have the original Firestone Destination 2 and they are great ride and very quiet. I use it for daily driving no off road and they are also great in snow.
