    Hey guys,

I’ve recently got some new tires. Falken wildpeaks at3s on stock off-road rims (2018 TRD off-road). When I left discount tire I noticed the steering wheel shake at 55-70 mph. Took the truck back and had the tires rebalanced and the problem persisted. I once again brought it back in and they then rotated and balanced again. They said the only thing they had to do was add 1 oz of weight. This time the steering wheel shake is gone but I still feel a shake mostly through my seat, feet, and if my arm is resting on the door. Seems like maybe one of the tires on the back is the culprit. Since I’m sure they are balanced properly could this be a manufacturing defect? Out of round tire? I’m trying to decide on the next step. Let me know if you have any ideas! Truck was perfectly fine and smooth before the tires.

    Thanks!

Were they road force balanced? Discount tire is usually really good with things like this. If it persists, see if they'll order a new set.

Yeah I made sure to ask them since I was reading a lot about that on here. The last guy said they were but my truck was in there for like 5 minutes.. not sure if that’s something that happens that quickly? I’ve had good experiences with this DT in the past with my suby so I would think they know what they are doing

Definitely sounds like an out of round tire, especially since it was first in the front and then progressed to rear when they rotated again. Id ask them to put two new on the rear and see what happens.

Shake in the steering wheel is out of round or out of balance front tire. Shake in floor/seat is out of round or out of balance rear tire.

One of you rear tires is either out of round, or out of balance. Tell them the issue moved from steering to seat after the tire rotation, and they should be able to take it from there and solve it.

You need road force with lug centric adapter.

No offense, but wildpeaks are a very cheap tire, with some having good luck and many others chasing down the same issues like your doing. Bfgs are the same way. Both are high maintenance tires. Do yourself a favor and get some.toyo open country at2s or some Nittos and you will be happy.

Look at your two back wheels. There is probably one with a ton of weights on it. The tire is fucked up. Tell them to replace it.

Damn it didn’t seem like a budget tire when I was looking into it. Obviously cheaper but I still thought I was getting quality since there are mostly good reviews. Dont the toyos cost about the same? They sounded great in the rain plus a fairly quite ride sold them for me. Which grappler do you suggest? Grappler G2? Or OC AtIII?

This seems to be quite common with the Falkens on here. Balancing issues. Makes me hesitate when it’s time to pull the trigger on tires in the future. Steering wheel vibrations drive me insane. I know em all too well coming from Jeep Wranglers.

What’s nice about discount is You can do a trade on a different set of tires and won’t cost u anything but price difference . I did this on another vehicle .just talk to the store manager .

Interestingly enough, I am having this same issue with my new Toyo open country AT3's. Floor/pedal vibration at 62-72mph.
Appointment tomorrow (Monday) at 11am to rebalance. I'll report back here with any pertinent info.

No vibration issues with Wildpeaks on my truck, had them mounted and balanced at the Toyota Dealership.

Discount Tire is a big box chain with 1,000 plus stores.

Regardless of their philosophies and training of management, they are going to have staffing issues, just like any company. And the larger the company, the harder the QC will be.

    So.

It means that while they may have great equipment like Hunter Road Force, it's not magic. In fact it can be used as a regular machine w/o engaging the Road Force functions, if the operator thinks things look good enough. For a tire thats a bit out of kilter, using Road Force can be a lot of extra work, breaking it down, shifting on the wheel and starting over checking it out.

And any tire can be bad right off the shelf. Broken belt, out of round, etc. Again, not hard for a good tech to find.

When you return with your problem, work to politely speak with the manager, tell him your problem and get his commitment to make it right. Ask him to put his best tech on it for you. Which may not be his oldest tech. You just want the best problem solver.

When you are satisfied with your results, go back and thank the manager face to face for working it out. Find the tech and shake his hand, palming him a $20 for his efforts. Get his name, and ask for him the next time you need help. He'll remember you.

Wait, 6 separate weights? That's not right. There should be 1 weight per side, two is the weights do go high enough, but that's questionable why it needs that much weight.

That sounds like the guy was having issues balancing the tires, and kept pounding weights on.
