So after 2 years of owning my truck, I have decided to upgrade my tires on my 2014 sport 4x4. I still have the stock Bridgestone P26565R17 on now and will be replacing them with some ATs. My truck has stock suspension.

Should I replace them with the same size tire or jump up to P26570R17? I figure if I am spending the money I might as well go up a size for looks, but am hesitiant to cause any problems. Is the difference in appearance between these 2 sizes really that noticeable?

For anyone running 26570R17, any issues or regrets (issues with ABS, traction control, etc.)?

I have aftermarket wheels with 5.75BS so rubbing shouldnt be a problem right?

    Any opinions/pictures are appreciated!

I like to buy stuff to solve problems I'm having.

Are you having traction issues that bigger will solve?

Selecting stuff that you'll benefit from 80% of how you use the vehicle will make that 80% usage much more enjoyable than using bits that only serve you well 20% of the time.

No; no problems at all right now; I didnt know if a different tire size (different rotation speed) would cause any issues with the electronic stability controls. I have heard of some people having problems with these systems after lifting their trucks; wasnt sure if those issues could be caused by different tire sizes

My 07 4X4 TRD came with 265/70/16's. I ran that size for 125,000 miles. When new tires were needed I just didn't find anything in that size I liked and went with 265/75/16's instead. They were LESS expensive because it is a more common size. They are just about the same overall size as 265/70/17's. I wish I'd done it sooner. I think it is just enough bigger to look good without any rubbing. There has been no noticeable difference in performance or fuel mileage. In fact my speedometer was always off by about 3 mph compared to the GPS and is now right on the money.

Tire sizes change as you wear them down. A set of 265/70/17's with 40,000 miles on them will be about the same diameter as 265/65/17's when new. Your trucks electronics can deal with this. I don't see a 1" taller tire causing any problems. Start going 4"-5" taller and I can see problems.

Thanks guys; Those pics look good crashnburn. When you guys say you have no rubbing do you mean no rubbing at all or only no rubbing on level ground? For example, if the suspension is flexed to go over curbs, hills, etc do you get any rubbing?

Yea, I was planning on going with P-load since those will be fine for my use.

This might help you with your analysis. https://www.tacomaworld.com/tirecalc

There's nothing wrong with plus sizing for a street driven truck, done within reason.

Thanks Bill, the tire calculator shows the diameter of the 26570R17 to be about 1" bigger which is what I was expecting after looking at the specs of the tires.

I think I want to go with the larger size but everytime I think my mind is made up I see other threads where people say they do have rubbing with this size.

I currently have Michelin M/S 2s in 265/70r17 so I can only speak from a highway tire perspective. There doesn't seem to be many differences but there are a few. One day I had to slam on my brakes because a old lady pulled in front on me and the ABS worked with a very weird pulsing sensation which it didn't do with stock tires. It takes longer to accelerate to speed (which is interesting in my case because my P rated 265/65r17 (40.6 pds) Nitto Terra Grapplers where the same weight as my P rated 265/70r17 Michelin M/S 2s (40.8) after using my own scale) but my mpg has not changed really. The transmission does hunt a little more on larger hills. Larger tires make the Tacoma look better however I commute a lot so my next set will be stock size.

It would be worse if they weighed more, as you'd guess.

What you 'feel' is the effective gearing change that a taller tire gives, making less 'grunt' off the line. In theory your MPG should be a touch better as you should have lower RPM for a given MPH. Be sure to use 'corrected' ODO numbers for your calculations.

Some will laugh, but I did the same with a Highlander. Stock wheels, but wanted a bit plus size, bit more aggressive look. Turned out that while all that was fine parked, it did nothing for the moving vehicle, (neither hurt or helped) and the cost differential on the tires was nuts. So I went back to stock too. 112k now and still get the same MPG as it did new, rides well, handles well (for a CUV) so I'm happy.

I bumped up one size to the General Grabber AT2s. No issues other than removing the front mud flaps! They look great too.

Truthfully I miss that 'grunt' with when towing and on all the hills where I live. You are 100% correct in saying the cost (mpg's) is virtually the same between the two tires.

All of my mudflaps are removed already so no issues there. At this point I think I am pretty sure I wont have rubbing issues.

However, some of the comments about power loss have me thinking stock size is best. Is the acceleration loss/gear hunting significant enough to cause concern or is it very minor?

I wish I could "try before I buy" but once I order the tires and have them mounted I think ill be stuck with my choice

I can't comment on gear hunting due to me having a manual, but with only going up one size, I highly doubt you'll have a problem. SO many people on here run a size up and haven't reported those problems.

Here's a couple shots of when I was stock suspension with +1 size. The other taco in the first pic is stock tires and suspension.

Thanks for the pics man, the comparison shot is great. Based on this I definitely want the bigger size as far as looks go.

You may have just won me over for the +1 size lol, when you had the stock suspension there was no rubbing at all? Whats the BS/OS of your wheels?

    I'm glad I could help!

No, I had no rubbing at all. Only rubbing was mud flaps, but you mentioned you already took them off.

As far as the wheels go, they are 8" wide with 4.5" BS, so they stick out 1.5" more than the stock wheels.

My wheels are 5.75" BS, which I think is slightly higher then the stock alloys.

I should be fine right? Is rubbing only caused by tires sticking out too far (too little BS) or is too much BS a problem too?

Anybody with wheels with specs similar to mine running the +1 tire size?
