Found this on Marketplace but I haven't looked at it yet. The seller said there were no other holes rusted through. Is this worth a 45 minute drive to look at, or is the whole thing going to be toast?received_1449030969675507.jpg Screenshot_20250725-174802.png

Most trucks with rotted frames are usually in a state of poor maintenance I find.

Every frame I swapped the trucks were in poor shape mechanically.

im a Toyota tech and I’d only buy that truck as a donor vehicle

I fixed one like that once. It was miserable. Took me two weeks of nights and weekends. I learned to weld upside down over my head, dropping sparks on myself. Would not recommend. Would definitely avoid.

Additionally, if its that bad already, it isnt worth more than about $1000 regardless of mileage. Thats how much work its going to take to fix it

Not worth it. There is just no way that part of the frame rusted to the point of breaking off without other parts of it being as bad or worse.

Thanks guys. The price was cheap enough but I decided I don't need another project right now. Somebody else must be a glutton for punishment or didn't bother to look underneath because it's marked as sold.

Thats where my 3rd gen rotted away first. I had a shop do a Saf-T Cap "repair" kit and I got a few more years out of it. Now it's ready to crumble where the T-case cross member is welded to the frame. My rig was pretty well maintained, this tin worm just ate it faster than I could stay on top of it. It's mainly from the pre-treatment that gets sprayed down in the winter every time there's a chance of ice or snow coming down.

Unfortunately the stuff they put down is really bad . My wife works for the town and I know some of the guys that work on trucks , you wouldn’t believe what that brine does to metal . 1/2 inch thick metal
    It’s shocking
