    1992 Toyota PU, 2019 Tacoma SR 4x4
I am new here and am glad I found this forum.

My original 1992 Toyota PU Truck is still running well with the odometer broken around 178,000 miles and my estimate is probably more like 230,000 miles.

I recently got a 2019 Tacoma SR 4x4 and have driven it close to 300 miles on the odometer so far.

It is still in break-in period and I am still babying it along.

If anyone knows what the initials "ECT" stand for, I would appreciate knowing myself.

I know it increases engine power and/or changes shift points to run the engine out longer and give it more power for passing or going up steep hills - but do the letters themselves, E.C.T., actually mean something?

This board has already helped me a lot! With the key in ACC but the engine not turned on yet, I was also getting that full size red screen with "Check Charging System" warning - found out that is common and normal and just means the battery is on via ACC but the engine is not running, so obviously the alternator is not charging. So that warning light only applies to if the engine is running, should it come on - and while in ACC, it is some standard Toyota way of showing that a warning system is working, similar to how all the other dash lights come on then go off once started.

So thanks !! That helped me out of a panic seeing that a few times since bringing it home, to know it is normal.

I didn't get it for off-road but did want 4x4 to replace an AWD Forester I was trading in.

It will take a while to learn when and when not to use 4x4 Hi, at what point are the roads wet or slippery enough that 4x4 is safe to use without damaging the system going around turns.

I do want to add a shell and am thinking ARE or SnugTop. ATC does not seem as good and the dealership that handles ARE and SnugTop had a Leer on display and showed a cut-away of the roof top, with the ARE and SnugTop using a thick honey-comb for the roof between the two layers of fiberglass laminate, exterior and interior, versus the Leer cut-away showing a very thing layer of cardboard without much reinforcement.

So it is probably ARE or SnugTop - and then get running boards because I have some medical disability issues and climbing up that high into the driver's side would be easier with step ups.

The old 1992 is only 9" ground clearance and like getting into a car, very easy. It would be nice if Toyota and/or other truck manufacturers, in addition to the higher off the ground modern versions common today, would offer at least one model that is lower to the ground, similar to how in 1992 it was a much smaller "sports truck" look than the larger 2019 one is today.

I am still enjoying breaking it in and learning the controls. The radio I am lucky to have tuned a few stations. When I am driving it's hard paying attention to driving and a flat touch screen at the same time - for myself at least - since I am old(er).

Thanks for hosting a very informative forum. If I ever discover something new about the latest generation Tacoma, I will post it here, but so far, I am still learning just how to drive it and what all the buttons do.
