Howdy all, I bought a 2012 Tacoma Double Cab 6 cyl. new back in 2012. I really like the truck and it's treated me well. Not too many miles on it as we are snowbirds and only use it when escaping our cold winter months (sits in storage all summer). This winter it had Check Engine Light on. Code reader detected P043E, P043F, P2401, P2042 and P2419. Local repair shop wants $1100 to replace the "Leak Detection Pump" (quoted $750 for the part alone) and stated that that was the "Start" of trying to fix the problem. I found the whole Cannister Assembly on-line (with includes the Pump) for $230. Thinking it might be worthwhile to replace myself but I'm a little intimidated by what might be involved. Nothing on line shows whats involved in replacing this cannister on my truck. Hoping there might be somebody out there in Tacoma World that can give me a little advise on DIY replacement? Thanks and best of the season to all!

lol i wouldnt go that far.

OP, KISS method. First things, check your gas cap tightness and clear codes... then get underneath and go through the evap system with a flashlight to look for any chewed hoses (and follow the lines up to the motor as well).... could be as simple as replacing a dollars worth of vacuum hose. If that dont work Get a new gas cap, clear the codes and see if it comes back.

Id bet its something cheap and simple to fix rather than the whole assembly.

Thanks. Codes cleared several times but just keep coming back. Truck only has 28K miles and garage storage but I am a fan of KISS so replacing the cap makes sense. Following is the Dealer Estimate info. Any useful info?

Work Performed - VERIFIED CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON, SCAN DTC. AVAILABLE; P043E; EVAP SYSTEM LEAK DETECTION

REFERENCE ORIFICE LOW FLOW, P043F; EVAP SYSTEM LEAK DETECTION REFERENCE ORIFICE HIGH FLOW, P2401; EVAP LEAK DETECTION PUMP STUCK OFF, P2402; EVAP LEAK DETECTION PUMP STUCK ON, P2449; EVAP PRESSURES SWITCHING VALVE STUCK ON. BASED ON CURRENT DTC'S , DO NOT SUSPECT EVAP SYSTEM LEAK @ THIS TIME. SMOKE TEST NOT NECESSARY. CLEARED CODES AND RUN EVAP SYSTEM TEST, TEST FAILED. DTCS RETURNED. INSPECT LEAK DETECTION PUMP, NO PROBLEMS FOUND. VERIFIED VOLTAGE TO PUMP OK. SUSPECT LEAK DETECTION PUMP FAILED. RECOMMEND TO REPLACE LEAK DETECTION PUMP ASSEMBLY AND RECHECK

    Thanks again,

Well folks, sega continues. Cleared codes, checked all lines for leaks and replaced gas cap. Few days later same codes came back so I think I'm back to replacing the Leak Detection Pump. I found the whole Canister WITH pump assembly at Germain Toyota of Naples for about $230. Anyone out there in Tacoma World have any insight (or Service Manual Instructions) for replacing the Cannister assembly on my 2012 Double Cab. Everything I could find online is for older trucks and not double cabs. Been a while since I've done any wrenching and just don't want to bite of more than I can chew. Thanks all.
