JCyril here first time on the forum and already have most questions answered concerning towing with my 2013 SR5. Thanks to the author of "The Towing Bible" - what a find that was for me, as I have the usual questions about towing with a Tacoma 6cyl. I would be interested in any comments from anyone on the forum concerning the tow ratings assigned vehicles by the manufacturers. Specifically, from your experiences with towing whatever do you find their ratings to be generally somewhat high? I'm referring to the actual performance of the vehicle at or near maximum tow loads i.e. pulling uphill on long grades etc. Incidentally, the Towing Bible author really nailed the topic of staying within the maximum hitch and towing rates. Great stuff!

    Welcome from TN!

I don’t tow all that much, only about 3k or so. (atv’s/rhino and trailer) but have read guys towing 6k or so with the right hitches and all and they all seams to say it does good. I think most that tow a lot add air bags, and say it helps a lot.

OK and thanks for the feedback. Do you have any info on the gas mileage towing with the 6cyl engine? I have a 2013 2WD with towing package...Jim

    no problem man!

and I have not calculated it. I tow about 3k to 3500 pounds.(need to find out exact weight of trailer)

but I tow about 40 miles round trip, with some hills(i think there is a few 4% grades) speeds around 70 to 75. I usually use about 1/4 of a tank round trip. I’m 4wd BTW with tow package.
