New to forums - Just got up a 2016 sport

I'm Warner, from Phoenix AZ, new the forums, just purchased a 2016 sport with the jbl sound package, towing package, and blind spot monitoring system.

So far love the truck, came from a mustang so having functional backseats is great.

Pros - very quiet cabin, the jbl speakers sound great, handles well, averaging 21.6 mpg with 60% city and 40% highway driving.

Cons - the blind spot monitoring system is defective. Apparently Toyota is aware and working on a solution, as there are quite a few Tacoma's with this issue. For some reason when you have the headlights on at night and try to activate the BSM, it just causes a system failure resulting in the truck screaming at you to "Check Blind Spot Monitor System", they say it'll require a ecu update which won't happen for 6 weeks to 2 months. Otherwise the system works fine during the day time. If you're going to buy a Tacoma with the BSM I highly advise test driving it in the evening to make sure it functions properly.

 

You bought my exact truck..I am assuming from your MPGs its a 2WD? ....Mine should be here within days. I will check the BSM. I am sure Toyota will get it right. Glad you like the JBL system. I would not have ordered a truck without it. I will be adding black runners and a TruxSport tonneau. All the best. Post your deal before Tax and title for others in the area if you got a discount.

First mod - Removing all the ridiculous stickers

The best deal I could find here in phoenix was $500 off MSRP. The MSRP was 35200 ish before the discount (also came with some other stuffsuch as 3 years of oil changes, the tailgate step, chrome tip exhaust). Every other dealer I contacted is selling them for MSRP or higher. Apparently the demand is greater than the supply out here. The day I bought my truck they sold 3 more before I had even finished my paper work. Both times I had to go back to the dealer to have them evaluate my BSM system about 5 days apart, they never had the same 2016's in stock. Tax is 8.3% here + titles comes out close to 3k. I'm sure I could of got them to knock off a few more hundred but I feel like every $100 would cost me an additional hour and my sanity.

I just got the "Check blind spot monitor system" warning this evening. It's good to see it's a known issue. Was there another thread with this issue being tracked? (Searching, this is the only one I saw from google). The fact that it constantly throws up the little warning screen was really quite annoying.

Mine is a 2016 White TRD OD Access Cab.

 

I haven't seen any other thread with regards to this issue. Save yourself some time and do not leave your truck at the dealer while they try to diagnose the problem. It took them a day just to contact the technician at Toyota as they deal with multiple states each. They even went so far as to order me two new replacement mirrors while they were waiting to here back from him. Just make sure they have you on file to receive the ecu fix when it's released. Until then enjoy the BSM during the day

 

Can you relay the name of dealer / mechanic you were dealing with? I want to make sure my guy gets the right info.

Hey I gotta stupid question... how do I know I have the BSM system?? I've got a TRD Sport ... how can I check to see if I actually have it. I heard a weird sound (I did have the CD player on) when I was backing up last week with a car coming my way in a parking lot but it wasn't something that was repeated...?

The people with the bsm that are having problems, was your truck made in Mexico or Texas?

 

Do you have the premium and tech package? Moonroof, heated seats, dual zone climate

Congrats on your truck! I have a blue TRD Sport 4x4 with the tech package premium JBL upgrade and I get the stupid BSM error. It happens to me in the day time as well. I have the DRL turned on. I am taking it to the shop tomorrow to see what they have to say.

Not a 4x4, yep got the premium and tech package but I doubt ill be using the heated seats much in phoenix though. Everything else works great on the truck so far. I do have the turn signals on the side mirrors though, not sure if that has anything to do with contributing to the error. I also have my DRL turned on.
