5.5 lift front 4 rear on 33s with an endless amount more work to do
So I just picked up this 2006 DC prerunner 4.0 with 142k today in Phoenix and am driving it back to Denver. It has lifted leaf springs with bilstien 5100s and lifted spindles and total chaos upper arms in the front with stock kybs. Running 18s with 285/65/18s. Has the factory subwoofer and an aftermarket stereo missing the volume button. Lol. Gonna be doing a lot of upgrades to this in time. I've wanted this truck for the past 12 years and finally got it.

It's crazy that I've wanted a speedway blue DC all these years and then I find one that already has the lift I want. But the wheels gotta get swapped. Probably gonna go to 16s with 255/85/16.

Ok so day one in the books. I had 2 unscheduled stops. First was getting an oil change because it was 1/2 quart low and dark. And second was stopping to get the tires balanced after a few miles on the highway. I also got new lugnuts while I was there due to the after market wheels having small lug holes and full size lugnuts. No fitting a lug wrench in there. The truck still has a vibration around 70-75. But I'm willing to bet that is coming from the drivetrain or the size of tire. The 285s have only a few millimeters of clearance to the knuckle and either thinner tires or spacers are needed asap. All in all the truck is running good. There is a minor miss at idle but not enough to throw a light. I'm going to give it a full tune up and a fuel injection service when I get it to my shop. I made it from Phoenix to the four corners and am laying in the back seat outside of the entrance as we speak. Tomorrow I push all the way to Denver with a few stops for photo ops and horseplay. Oh also I figured out that the truck has stock leaf springs with a short shackle and an add a leaf not lifted springs. I realized that when I noticed the broken one on the right side. But this truck falls under the recall for that so I will get a free set in the next few weeks.

So the truck made the entire 880 miles trip home without another hiccup. today I drove one straight shot from the four corners to Denver and the truck pulled great up all the passes and revealed some badly warped brake rotors on the downhills. oh well looks like the first upgrade is a set of akebono pads and slotted and drilled brake rotors. and then a set of nerf bars. because my daughter is just to short to get in and I see pain and crying without them.

So it's been a few months with the taco and I'm still in love. I've found that the mechanical lsd is a monster help offroad. I got rid of the 18s and put on fj wheels. Added a set of steps so my little girl can get in the truck. Put a tool box in the bed and got a bed cage for a really good deal.... but that's gonna change. I've got 3 of 4 fender flares done in bedliner coating. And added some creature comforts to the interior. Future plans are to add a tonneau cover on a vertical raise to cab height (engineering in process watch for a write up in the 2nd gen forum). Also likely going up a few more inches and going to 33/34 inch tires. End goal is an offroad capable prerunner that I can camp in. Stay tuned.
