Hello, been doing a lot of reading and still had a few questions about two noises Before I get yelled at YES I know it's a noisy engine! And yes it's headed to device dept soon (drip from oil drain plug where they reused bung and doesn't appear to have a washer on it?)

I have only had the truck about a week 25k on it and it has gotten louder since purchased. Have a rather bad knocking sound seems to be coming from driver's side back of engine at times sounds like my old Ford diesel other times only can hear it with windows up radio off from in cabin. When it's at it's worst it gets quieter/ goes away when I step on or pump the brakes. Didn't bother take a video but this same sound https://youtu.be/QbmsXB_fGKM
Bad vacuum pump or normal loud vacuum pump?

Also a fairly quiet almost wooshing sound louder with a/c on kind of cycles on and off? Not a big deal just curious.

Sorry for the long post like the truck so far just trying to figure out some of its quirks. Thanks

If anybody wants guess at it or reassure me a little more detail....
Noise is always there just usually much quieter (normal I think) then gets loud randomly. Might not do it all day might start doing it halfway through drive on the highway might do it right off when starting cold.
When it's loud can turn radio up around 18 before you stop being able to hear it...
Much louder with windows rolled up? ( Part that really confuses me)

If you are in park and rev up the engine does the noise increase along with the revs?

Might be one of the pulleys going out.

It sounds like valve noise, but I have no idea why pumping the brakes would affect that.

Thought rod at first due to sudden onset (have since scoped to top end) and then valve but have never had one be intermittent before?

Do these 3.5s have hydraulic lifters or shims like the other recent Toyota?

If dealership won't take an in depth look will stick sensors by pulleys tomorrow afternoon and go for a drive if shops not too busy

Every time I've ever heard that noise, it was a sticky lifter or a lifter that wasn't getting oil. Either way, When's the last time the oil was changed and what are you using...?

Should be oem 0-20w. Dealer took it in a few weeks ago and did all fluids before I bought it last weekend everything looks brand new and correct levels.

Does the overhead cam 3.5 have lifters of any kind? What sounds like lifter noise may indicate normal cleaning. Noisy, but normal.

I can live with it if it's normal just don't like unexplained noises... will check what's been brought up so far today if works not too busy

Answered my own question about lifters ran the serial # off a head at the shop I knew the older 3.5s had mini lifters/ hydraulic tappets under the rockers but wasn't sure if they had changed to solid like a few others

Had to buy this in a hurry so playing catch up with research and questions now. Thanks everyone for taking time to respond and help.

On the off chance that someone else find this in the future. Dealerships conclusion was mostly normal loud engine/ injector noise and vaccum pump on the way out (intermittent louder noise). Changed it out and it definitely helped quiet things down for now. Hopefully good to go for another 300k or so.

    Thanks for the help everyone
