Good evening y'all. My wife and I just moved to NOLA, about three weeks ago. She grew up here and wanted to move back, so here we are. We're in the Lakeview, area and I haven't found any place to get dirty yet. But these streets are so jacked up I don't think I need to go far to rock crawl. WTF???

Plenty of places to get dirty. My truck is currently filthy and it hasn't left the roadway in a while. Closest place for rocks is 4 or 5 hrs

Not really any place that's open to the public besides the spillway and they have some weird rules. Unless you want to drive to ms

Yeah, we attended the Renaisance fair last week, and I saw a few places that looked like it would be accessible. I just don't know.

Spillway is closest. Muddy. Very easy to slip into the water and lose your truck, so just be easy. The best entrance is down Airline Hwy in Norco. Just drive until you see the Shell station on the left, and the entrance is just past the Shell, on top of the levee on your left. Just drive right in and mess around. There are 'trails' and such, but nothing very interesting. I'm uptown, PM me and if I'm free I'll come with!

I live on the opposite side of the lake as you guys and the only place I have found to legally get my truck muddy and even just stuck, is in my own backyard. to many rules at the spill way, plus as stated above, to easy to lose your truck. some places out there will just swallow a Tacoma and ask for more. If yall happen to run across any good places though, please pass on the info

hey guys, I live in Metairie. Just found this thread.

I did the spillway a week or two ago. You have to be careful out there.

Best way to go to the spillway is to hit Airline Hwy (61) out of Town and make the right turn after the Shell as someone mentioned above.

From there, you can take the road straight all the way NORTH to the lake (if the road underneath the train tracks isn't totally submerged.) it's a nice fishing / crabbing / birding spot.

If you make a left, you're at one of the main boat launch areas for the spillway.

on my exploring run, I made a left on "C+C road" off of airline and then another left over the levee onto the actual spillway road. from there it went from paved, to gravel, to dirt/mud/sand . I don't have a 4x4 so I wasn't dicking around too much, I was there to fish. Caught one small bass but didn't have a ton of time, this was more of a scouting run on my first trip to the spillway after living here for 35 years with small cars or not caring about the outdoors.

Friend went out there more recently and caught a very nice chopiq (bowfin)

In fact, my profile pic should now be a selfie I took on the spillway 2 weeks ago with the Trainbridge in the background.

bonus points: this location was used heavily for the filming of Season 1 of True detective
