Ok, I'm a new member and this is my first Toyota. When I turn the key off the down lights don't come on. Is this a Toyota thing? Every car I've ever owned had courtesy lighting that came on when the key went off.

I think it works on the door switch. Open the door.

I've never heard of that. Lights come on with the door or a switch...

Thanks! Like I said first car I've had that didn't turn on the lights when the ignition switch went off.

my 2011 interior light comes on when I remove the key as long as the switch is set to the "door" mode...and thats without any mods...put a year for your taco in your profile and maybe someone will have an idea

I don't think there's a mod for it nor will it come on when you turn off the ignition. What you can do is turn the ignition to off, then unlock the doors (I know it works when the doors are locked because this is what I do at the commuter bus stop in the mornings). I think the Mod referred to above is to have your map lights come on with the dome light (a very worthwhile modification for us double cab owners because it really helps light up the front area of the cabin).

Thanks, the unlock method should work.
