I've been looking at Tacomas for 2 years now without purchasing one. I've done enough research to know I want one, and what I want. I've never owned a truck, or a new vehicle at all. I've driven my old Prelude for 16 years now and I need a vehicle that a) I like, and b) one that can seat my family (the Prelude ain't cuttin' it). I was looking at a Tacoma a year ago and posted for advice on here, and was advised to wait till what I want exactly comes along. Which was the right choice. So once again, I would appreciate some advice:

First of all, this would be a vehicle to tote my 2 year old around in. For those with the double cab, is there ample room for a carseat? Also, my wife would be driving it SOME, and neither of us have ever owned a truck. I know it depends mainly on the driver, but is the difference between driving a SUV and this truck so significant that others have issues adapting? Especially females?

Now to the price. . and I know this also is impacted by the location and time of year, but basically I can get a 2016 Tacoma, white, 2x4 double cab with the TRD Sport package for 31K out the door. 3.1% interest through Toyota. From the online lurking I've done in the past, this seems like a pretty decent deal. They've told me it's priced a little more modestly due to the fact that it's been on the lot for 40 days (which apparently is a long time) and they're looking to move it out the door ASAP. I'm assuming because it's white, which I'm not crazy about, but when a comparable model in black goes for 3-4K higher, I can deal with the white. In your experience, is this is a fair deal?

This is a major decision for me, because once I buy a vehicle I drive it till the wheels fall off. I'm a little nervous. Thanks in advance!

    Do it.

Car seats install relative easily, so I've heard. Back seats are big enough for kids up to about 11 or so, unless y'all are like 6' 5" or something.

If your wife can handle an SUV she handle a DCSB just fine. Mine hates my long bed and has only driven it once. Then again, she prefers her Prius.

It's a great truck and you'll be really glad you did it. I waited 14 months for mine, and every day it makes me glad I didn't get the 2015 Canyon.

With car seats all being different and front seat positions adjusted differently, your best bet is to take the car seat with you to the dealer and put in the truck and you and your wife adjust the front seats as needed. That is the only way to know for sure.

As far as driving differences, not really that much. Now if you are looking at the sport, some have stated the scoop can be a distraction, I didn´t find it to be.

What options does the truck have? 31k out the door is a fair deal, even better if it has extras on it.

I think it's just typical to whatever comes with the TRD Sport model. Suspension, grill, navigation, rims, hood scoop, etc.

+1 on taking the car seat to the dealer. Our son is still rear facing and it is tight in the double cab. We put the car seat in the middle and have plenty of room in the front.

Also, just my opinion but have you considered a 4x4? My first truck was a 2x4 tundra and I swore never again. And I only "need" 4x4 like 3 times every two years.

I put a 3 year old and a 3 month old in my DC all the time. It's fine even the backwards facing car seat is fine. You'll like the truck and that is a pretty damn good deal. ESP if that's really after TTT

I can't afford the 4x4, for the extra 3K, or else I'd do it for sure. I'm kind of splurging going with the TRD Sport model, to be honest. Ha.

I have 4x2, and I've never had the need for more. Of course, my truck is an asphalt avenger, and I don't go any further off-road than gravel roads.

Are you north or south? I'd recommend 4x4 if you get medium to heavy snow.

I would look at an SR5 DCSB 4x4 personally. Resale will be easier and better in the future, but that's just my opinion.

Depends on location. Just about any Tacoma is gold here - they don't stay on used car lots longer than a week.

I don't think resale is a concern here. He said he wants a vehicle to drive till the wheels fall off.
Also, maybe he wants the scoop, painted bumpers, qi charger, etc. on the sport.

Well, again, if you don't like white, don't get it. This is my first new truck and I waited until I found what I wanted and what was in my budget. I was able to save more as I looked for about 6 months to find what I wanted, which made my budget bigger, so I was able to get a little more. I started off wanting a Sport, but as I drove more, I ended up liking the Offroad more. In the end, just make sure you get what you want, because you'll have it for a long time, and drive the one you are going to buy several miles to make sure it checks out. Ask to take it overnight if you can too, this will give you a good feel as to if it's a good one and a good fit.

White = Work Truck, unless you mod it up to not look like a work truck:

    It is what it is!
I'm a new owner too and the only regret I have is why didn't I buy one sooner. My question is " is there a thread that tells what the different models are?"

My dealer allowed me to take several models home SR5, 4x2, 4x4, Sport, Off road, short bed and long - all were double cabs. We have 2 car seats with one rear facing. There is more room in the Tacoma then a Prius. Plenty of room and family friendly as far as we are concerned. All the models felt and rode different. We get snow so 4x4 is a must but I have done plenty of driving in the snow with 4x2 pickups and it all comes down smart driving and good tires

I came to a double cab short bed TDR OFFROAD from a '76 BMW 2002, an E30 M3 and traded in my Audi B5 S4 wagon. It was not a hard transition. If you're coming from an SUV I'm guessing it will be easy. It is weird going from the ol' 2002 to the Tacoma.

Is your price "out the door" including TT&L? My SR5 was $29,900 before TT&L. Taxes in my state are about 10%.

Toyota's black truly looks amazing on the dealer's lot, but unfortunately it's a labor of love: very fragile/easily scratch prone/maintainence time consuming (from prior 2015 experience).
Imo, super white's actually a sound, durable color choice esp if you drive vehicles "till the wheels fall off." Im also happy with it's overall distinctness & aesthetics.
