Hi im from Alaska just moved to Glendive MT, i dont yet have my tacoma but hopefully by the end of the year. In the meantime im doing a ton of research on what i wanna put on and in the truck.

First, thing i wanna know is are there any good GPS systems that do more off road then the plan jane stuff that comes stock now in cars and trucks, like can i upload hunting areas into it and trail maps.

Second, I want a diesel in the Tacoma (i know there isnt one) is the cost in shipping a Hi Lux from Europe out of the question or installing a diesel into it.

Third, seeing how i have a wife and kid and hopefully more on the way is getting a manual imperative to trail running cause this will be the family car until i by a another car and kids and manuals dont gel well.

Thanks to any responses my brother has been a member for a long time(i got jealous of his truck and how much he uses this forum so its time i join lol)

First off, you're gonna get nothing but hell for mentioning the diesel in here haha.

Really the Diesel is hated that much thats sad its by far the best fuel on the market as far as versatility goes i know its performance isn't that good but im looking to build a survival vehicle more then a crawler which could be a crawler plus everything you need for survival but exploring this site ive found some sweet stuff for "survival"/ Hunting and "G.O.O.D." (Getting out of Dodge)

Get a D4D swap. And if you get a manual youll probably want a crawl box if you wanna do anything crazy.

The diesel isn't hated, it's the great white buffalo of our trucks. We all want. But we cannot have.

As for the GPS I was talking with the garmin rep at the sportsman show (he came by my display) and he recommended the DEZL units. Smartphone connectivity, touchscreen, backup cameras, bluetooth and a 7" display with free lifetime map updates. You just meed a topo map kit for trails.

With enough time and money, anything is possible. You can DIY or there are companies that will do the entire swap like http://dieseltoys.com/
