Hi I just joined since I recently became a Tacoma owner. I joined to have access to info or advice for my truck since it's the last truck I'll ever plan to own, tips on anything that should come up. I use to own an 86' Toyota 4x4 standard cab 22R. I got it January of 2007 and turned it over the years into bad ass daily driver. I rebuilt the motor, tranny, new clutch, put 4.88 gears in the rear with True track limited slip differential, cream yellow paint, Smitty bilt roll bar with stacked lights, suspension lift, 16.5x12 Weld rims on 33' tires. I went to many events, gigs, restaurants, drive-ins, malls, houses, many passengers and family, dogs to the park, pulled over by cops, and much more. I loved that truck, at times I hate it when things went wrong but I'm wiser now to know you get out of your truck depends on what you put into it. The time finally came were I thought I needed something more convenient an decided I should sell it. I searched up Craig list and found a nice looking 90' dodge ram 4x4 truck, made arrangements with seller for a possible trade. When he saw my truck he wanted to trade, I did too so we did. It was november 2015. After a week of driving my new misfortune of a pig ( this thing handled like a pig) I strongly regretted and missed my truck so badly, I felt so bad like if I gave one of my kids away. At this point I hated my dodge truck, hated driving it and wasn't comfortable driving it. My Toyota pickup left a void inside me, mainly cause of all the history with it but I had to move on. I put the ad on eBay with no reserve, 3400 was the winning bid, not even half of what I spent on my Toyota! That's life. I saved some cash so with the bid earnings and that I bought into a nice 93' cherokee, was really nice but after 2 weeks I felt the void and needed to sell it. People thought I'm crazy. I was just not happy and at this point I was afraid of buying to just resale again. The jeep went on Craig list, sold in 2 weeks March 2016. Now what? Well I thought since I loved Toyotas and work there why not focus on a Toyota?? My 86' was carburated and great, but I needed to step up a little more into the future at least engine wise. My next ride had to be ext cab pickup with good power so my focus wouldn't be on engine mods, and looks.. very important, 4x4, 5- speed. I looked and was patient, of all the older 22re 4x4s I saw I finally came to look at the first gen Tacomas. Compact like the older pickups but more refined. My objective now became first gen Tacoma, ext cab, 5-speed, good condition, 4x4, and with the durable reputable 5vze motor. Finally found an ad online for one in long beach with everything I wanted in it, got my cash and drove out to see it. When I got there it was parked and I loved it right away, got out the car to look at it and noticed dings and a slightly cracked windshield but my enthusiasm was still there, no discouragement at all. Time for test drive. Dam I love it! This thing drives and feels more like a car than anything, and VERY GOOD POWER. Early April 2016. Over a month now and am more happy with it now than I was when I first bought it, the void has finally been filled! It only took a 96' Tacoma 4x4 ext cab 5-speed V6 to make it happen. I plan to do everything with my new truck, do all the things I did with my old pickup. All except getting pulled over by cops. Lol
