Just brought home a 2008 TRD. Happy to be part of the club. Since buying used, it came with one key. An aftermarket one in fact. Can y’all help with what to do? I want a fob security system and actual Toyota keys. What’s the best route? Dealer or key maker or what? Thanks for the help.

Do not go to the dealer. Buy keys off ebay or Amazon. Take them to a locksmith to have them cut. If your key is worn, do not have them copy a worn key. You can take your registration and ID to the dealer and they can look up the key code by VIN number. Then you can have the locksmith cut the keys using the key code. After that, you have some choices for programing.

    1. Pay the locksmith somewhere around $50 for programming.

    2. Buy pirated Techstream, put it on a laptop, and program them yourself. There are lots of other cool things you can do with Techstream. About $50. I recommend obd2innovations.

    3. Buy keymaker and program them yourself. I have no experience with keymaker, but several TW members have used it successfully.
