I've got a 2018 SR5 (4x4) which is awesome but I joined to ask about towing. I build furniture on the side and recently purchased a single axle enclosed trailer that weighs 1100 pounds. The tacoma pulls it great till I hit the interstate going around 65. Has anyone else experienced this and do you have any suggestions. Thanks!! Glad to be on this forum.

I have zero issues towing with mine. 2019 trd off road. I don’t town and have never towed an enclosed trailer but 1100 pounds is nothing for the weight. My trailer is a 20’ double axle car hauler that is use for absolutely everything. It weighs around 1700-1800 pounds empty and I’ve had over 4,000 pounds loaded on it. It pulled just fine in s5 and shifted to 4 on interstate several times for longer uphill inclines. Some longer and steeper graded inclines it had to drop to 3rd but still pulled just fine.

    Welcome to TW. :hattip:

I have towed with mine, I stayed in 5 gear, but mine is a manual so that doesn't help much.

Wow super fast response! I appreciate all the responses, I should also state that when I’m towing this new enclosed once I hit around 65 or 70 I’m getting a vibration... the passenger seat shakes like crazy and I wondered if it was my suspension or tires. Mentioned in previous response, putting it in S4 and tow mode makes sense... I’m new to all this so any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

Definitely ECT and holding a lower gear.
You mentioned enclosed trailer; you have to remember, no matter what, you're going to be fighting aerodynamics, not just weight. Especially if your trailer is tall.
Small truck, means you've got a smaller amount of air pushed out of the way for the trailer. There's probably better terminology, but I'm not an engineer, and you probably know what I mean :D

    Welcome!

I’m guessing its your trailer tires. On small trailers they usually don’t get balanced. My 5x10 utility trailer will cause some slight vibrations when it’s empty. Once I get some weight on it, it smooths out.

That was what I was suspecting as well...I just bought it. Its a 6x12 enclosed trailer. Super pleased with it just when Im on the interstate everything tends to vibrate.

I will definitely do that here coming up. I am delivering a piece to DC so I've got a 6 hour drive ahead of me.

Just enjoy the road trip and your new truck, you don't need to go warp speed. There's always another new, bigger, more powerful, more expensive land yatch available, and yet a bigger asshole tailgating everyone while towing, to show off his $80k truck. I must be getting old, I'll just ride the right lane and let the big swingin dicks have their fun. Of course it never fails, I'll only be about 2-3 minutes behind them, and run in to them at the only gas stop for the next 90 miles
