I like Chevrolet and GMC. I have always wanted to get into a Toyota and try one out since I hear great things about them. I have a buddy who has a old 95 dodge ram 12 valve with a 5 speed. The same buddy just recently got a 3rd gen 5.9 Cummins. I just don't need the diesel I don't tow much. I just am looking for a good reliable mid size truck/SUV or mid size vehicle to replace my old 2000 Chevy Silverado. Which is another reason i joined this site to get some feed back on Tacoma trucks. I hope I didn't cause any issues by talking about other brands on a Toyota site sorry if I did. Thanks for all your feed back I appreciate it!!

Welcome to TW? Who's 3rd gen is that in your profile? In any event, you will have sticker shock when looking to purchase a new or pre-owned Tacoma. BUT, they do hold their resale value better than any other truck out there by a mile. Depending on where you live, preventative measures to combat frame rust would be strongly recommended.

A 2nd gen isn't 'settling' !!! Its a proven platform that lasted 10 years and has a extremely loyal owner base. The drive train is bulletproof, and it isn't overly complicated with an over abundance of electronics that can go wrong.
But this us just my opinion.

My first Toyota was a 1st gen Trd Prerunner access cab. I bought it and sold it 5 years later for the same price i bought it for. I had done a couple things but nothing major. Never in my life have I experienced anything like that lol. I was told cars depreciate and thats just how it is. Now i have all toyotas in the driveway. Leased a sienna for the missus in 2015 and at the end of the lease i had a nice chunk of equity. I didnt know that was a thing, but the dealerships(including competitors) just said ‘well you bought a toyota’.

anyway i have a 2014 double cab short bed trd or, and with full cab rack and camper rack the same height(victory or prinsu style) i can still cary sheets of plywood and whatever. A great all around truck.

So true. In fact dealerships are seeking 2nd gens because they sell better than the brand new 3rd gens on the lot.
