Hello everyone. I am currently debating on buying a 2011-2012 Toyota Tacoma double cab V6 automatic. Right now I have a Dodge Cummins Diesel reg cab. I need a family 4 door truck now and I hate to sell my diesel. I have always loved these tacomas, educate and tell me why I shouldn't hesitate and go buy one! Thanks for any input!

pros: Amazing reliability, Great around town with small size. Fits 4 people very well. Super high resale. Great offroad.

cons: Low on power if you are towing heavy loads. gas mileage is probably worse than your cummins. Weak rear springs. Outdated.

If toy's are your thing, the 2012 gets a better factory stereo and bluetooth standard. It also has a revised interior and exterior, so narrow down which style you like better.

    05-11

    or 12-14.

The interior of the '12-14 is far nicer.

    Mechanically they are all identical.

Towing isn't an issue for me, I drove my cummins like a car lol. I'm not a big mpg freak either, 18 would be fine with me. I think I'm going to test drive one this weekend. I wanna spend around 24k

Ok, you will miss your diesel power and fuel mileage. Don't plan on towing with your tacoma.

You will enjoy the reliability and ease of maintenance on the tacoma.

Get the Tow PKG!! Make sure it is the factory tow pkg too. It comes with a trans/oil cooler, Better Alternator, battery. The Fan connector will be pink.

Get a tacoma, because you will have the best technical support team at your finger tips 24/7/365.

Can't wait to see the pics of the new Taco, Keith. Make sure you get the color you like, and splurge on the TRD package. It's worth it.

It's the only capable middleweight on the market and is cheaper to maintain than a full size.

Other than your Dodge being a reg cab, why are you not considering another Dodge? Has it been reliable? Tacoma is a different animal than a full size. You will probably take a hit on resale or trading on your Dodge.

@car78412, I don't really need a full size truck. Like I said, I never tow anything. I love my dodge diesels, and it has been very reliable to me. But these cummins' probably have the best resale value, I can sell mine and get more out of it than I paid for it over 7 years ago. Me and my wife have a little girl, and a mid sized 4 door would just be perfect for us.

And yes I planned on splurging on the TRD pkg, as well as the tow pkg. I love the bright red and white colored tacomas. Hopefully I can get a chance to drive one to make sure, but I'm sure I'll love it

If you use it like a car, go for the TRD Sport. It's got better street manners than the TRD Off-Road... plus it has a hood scoop. That right there was the selling point for me.

You know how they say a Cummins will last for years and years and go for miles and miles? Well, meet the gas version of a Cummins, except with a reliable transmission and an extremely reliable truck to go along with it. Oh and since you're used to good resale value with your diesel, wait til you go to unload the Tacoma, you'll swear its a misprint when you go to look it up.lol

Could wait till the 2015 come out, could be revised with better fuel economy. The diesel isn't loosing any money rough it out for another year. That's one other option for you.

Congrats on the little girl. My wife and I just had our fist. She changes everything. I went from an AC(I4) to a DCLB(V6). I have been getting about 17.5 mpg around town and 18.5 mpg mostly highway. It is pretty hilly here. 800' elevation change between work and home. Lots of up and down between.

You don't need to be talked into a Tacoma. You're already there. Enjoy your new Taco!
