Well I'm in the market for a truck and narrowed it down to a 4Dr tacoma double cab and the Frontier Pro-4x double cab. Looking to buy new but am pulling more toward the Tacoma because of the resale value. I'm stuck between the SR5(TRD Sport) Or the TRD Off Road. I understand the differences and have stalked many forums trying to decide but still can't make up my mind. Prefer manual but would take an automatic. And v6 only

Now, being in New England 4x4 is a must and having a job that can never call out sick due to bad weather, also a major factor.

Other then being very good in snow, I'd like it to be good with very light off-road(mainly driving into the woods camping/hunting etc) would you recommend the sr5 Or the trd?

I'm testing both out tomorrow btw. Thanks.

    Yeah you can.
In CA (Canada) they have a screwed up segregation of what can have manual or not.

I would go with the TRD Off Road mainly for resale value. I sr5 and it does amazing without the locker. Although I would like to have a locker but it isn't a need for me. Unless you plan on doing more than gravel logging roads and the occasional trail, then you wont need a locker.

    Welcome to TW.
are you looking at new trucks?
If so I'd go for the TRD off-road, it has the simulated LSD just like the sport, but you also have the locker option. I'm not sure if the SR5 has the simulated LSD.
The inverter in the bed and the seats are the 2 biggest reasons to get the TRD package.

For the A-TRAC I'm guessing and rear locker, vs the TRAC on the sr5

Doesn't it have to have a certain bed length? I remember people complaining about not being able to buy the DC with the 6 spd in the bed length they wanted.

There is no such thing as a DCLB manual in either country

    Yes, only new.

The dealer has dcsb of the TRD off-road and the sr5 sadly no manual but I'll ask if I can get them in manual. If the weather is okay I'll check them out.

But I also read about the ticking/knocking sound some of these get. Some said they tanked 93 to fix it and some swapped spark plugs. Is this still an issue or did the newer model correct the problem?

    Learn something everyday.

ticking is normal, knocking should be taken to the dealer as the 4.0 is tuned for regular 87 octane gas.

I think you mean 87 , although my '09 manual states the truck is tested on 91

    Thanks for everyone who responded,
I'd love the TRD off-road but if I can get around comfortably with the sr5 it would be nice saving a few thousand
